While Blanche was visiting, Hookie (Blanche’s cousin) had exchanged his house for the old Chateau in France his family had owned. He invited for dinner over the weekend, and we packed the five-passenger Honda with six people and headed for Rouen, France 700km away (a 6-hour trip). The predominance of the roads was highways, but the last 15 miles narrowed to one lane (total), and we were all having a decent laugh. We found the Chateau and were all impressed with the large rock studded gate, large circular driveway, and its majestic look as we approached. In Hookie's greeting, he mentioned there was not any room for us at the Chateau.
In the play, “Watsons Go To Birmingham”, the author shows us that the kids in the story have kindness. In the beginning, Grandma Sands says “My beautiful family this is my friend Mr.Robert.” This fits the claim because, in the beginning, Grandma Sands says “My beautiful family this is my friend Mr.Robert.” this is kindness because she is calling her family beautiful and if someone called me beautiful that would be being kind and nice because they are giving you a compliment. In the middle, Mr. Robert takes the kids to a movie theater.
Imagery of the bass, the river, and Sheila Mant One of the main themes of this story is that sacrifice. The narrator of this story is not given a name but he is fourteen year old. The narrator has a major crush on a women- seventeen year old, Sheila Mant. The narrator finally, and I say finally, asks Sheila on a date via the narrator’s boat.
There are multiple times throughout the novel in which characters go out of their way to assist people they do not know. These character’s are showing compassion towards others during a time of misfortune and despair. When a man and his two sons enter the diner, they are clearly financially strained. The man requests to purchase a loaf of bread for less than the actual price. Mae, a woman working at the diner, was initially reluctant to give the man the discount, but her co-worker coaxed her into compliancy.
I had learned this by coming to understand that kindness isn’t only kind gestures, but instead a string of acts that conclusively lead to both parties seeing their own self value. It had been during my last years in middle school, a manipulative overlord of a person, someone I had been friends with for years, controlled me. Much like Mama Elena, this person whom I have given the title, “X”, was someone who needed to feel as if she had a tremendous amount of control over others. This person would tell me how worthless we, my friend, Dylan, and I, were. "X" would often blackmail us because of social mistakes like talking out of turn or forgetting to give her things like gifts or homework.
Throughout the short story “Sheila Mant” the boy is trying to decide whether he will choose the bass or Sheila. There are several reasons why I predict that the boy will choose the bass in the second half of this short story. The first evidence that leads me to believe this is that the boy is very intuitive and educated with fishing and bass. In the novel, the boy spent an entire summer fishing and learning all of the fishes names. This showed he was dedicated to fishing and found it as one of his passions not just a hobby.
Sheppard allows doing good and helping other to take presents over the well being of his son. The story serves as a reminder that absence of compassion and the attainment
Throughout the novel we see people’s kindness and cruelty, from the people in different parts of the story. We see acts of kindness when Lisa Hermann invites Liesel into her library or when Ruby gives a teddy bear to a dying pilot, those two examples represent the kindness part of the book. On the contrary, we see people being cruel, like the two mens treatment of Ruby. we also get a glimpse of far more dramatic examples of each thing. The Hubermanns family does a great thing in caring for Max.
Estella Pyfrom possesses selflessness and generosity. For example, Pyfrom spent around one million on modifying her bus to teach young kids with computers.(Berger) She was selfless because she spent her well earned money on a bus so she could help other people. She didn’t ask for anything the whole time, instead she focused on helping others. She also possesses generosity.
Kindness is often overlooked in society yet it still manages to hold a great deal importance in the lives of many. Kindness is an empowering emotion that can change perspectives and alter destinies. In The Glass Roses by Alden Rowan the true importance of kindness is personified throughout the story. In the story Stephen is encapsulated by the kindness of his fellow worker and greatly impacts Stephan’s ability to determine his own destiny. The Glass Roses shows that individuals tend to hide their true emotions in order to gain respect from their peers however kindness, once truly unveiled can play a huge role in determining ones destiny.
These ideas of how many people give limitless love and loyalty to someone, yet wanting some attention/credits, as they deserve it. This shows us how sad it is for many people to not get treated fairly because what they give doesn’t get returned to them. In the end Monique is so into making sure everything is to be perfect for Jordan, and standing up to him. Doesn’t Monique deserve at least a little back from Jordan? There are so many people we hurt because we aren’t aware of the love we have.
She uses her story about growing up in the lower/middle class to appeal to the audience emotionally, to create sympathy and empathy with the audience who may share a similar
For someone to gain kindness in his opinion was to “do well in school so we can get a good job” (“George Saunders”). He wishes for life not to be handed to us like those in the upper class, he wishes for us to work for it. His stories of Ellen relate more to Callie than Maria, who was part of the upper class and who went to pet the puppy and immediately trued to wash her hands, but
The family pair struggles to maintain enough food for themselves, but despite that the boy still tries to give up his food in order to help others. Not only did he insist in helping a man as rude as Ely, but wanted to help the lost kid on the road. “We could get him and take him with us…. I’d give that little boy half of my food”( McCarthy 86). This displays the naturally generous and unselfish characteristics of the boy.
The poem "Kindness" by Naomi Shihab Nye speaks about how you experience kindness and what it really is. The main point in this poem is that in order to experience people's kindness you need to experience hurt, sorrow, and loneliness. The author says that when you loose everything and have no one or thing that when kindness comes along it lifts you up "and then goes with you everywhere/ like a shadow or a friend" (33-34). When portraying this message the author uses a sad but hopeful tone to send the message she wants to say. This tone helps portray the message because you can feel how sad someone is when they are lonely and they have nothing.
