In the Novel 'The Giver' written by Lois Lowry and directed by Phillip Noyce the themes of rules and order and isolation and how evident these themes are throughout. Throughout this essay, I will discuss the importance of both themes and how they are Fluid throughout the story of 'The Giver'.

In the story of 'The Giver,' The theme of rules and order are present throughout the entire story.

Two children – one male, one female – to each family unit. It was written very clearly in the rules. (1.57)

The people in the community are like puppets and the government is like the puppeteers they control everyone and everyone is just like each other dark and emotionless.The government is isolating the citizens by taking away their emotions they are isolating their feelings then destroying them.they also isolate the drone drivers not letting them past the triangle of rocks, again isolating them to a small space.

‘Jonas looked at her. She was so lovely. For a fleeting instant, he thought he would like nothing better than to ride peacefully along the river path, laughing and talking with his gentle female friend. But he knew such times had been taken from him now. He shook his head. After a moment his two friends turned and went to their bikes. He watched as they rode away. (17.40)’

This again shows that Jonas is being isolated from his feelings and his friends and his love for them.
