Ryan Flanagan Dystopian Short Story/ Novel PROLOUGE= It was 2056 AD and times were getting incredibly desperate in the city, the current water source was just about empty. The government were keeping them under constant surveillance. They must not follow anyone but the government. If they didn’t get water soon they will all perish. They must follow the specific rules set by the government. What were they going to do? The neighbourhood turns to John hoping he would know what to do. It was early on a Sunday morning and on behalf of the neighbourhood, Lily (John’s girlfriend) asked him if he could go on a mission to look for more water. Lily tells John he is their last hope and that he has to go on the mission. later that night he planned his mission to save the city. He planned to go out during the dark hours to get around the guards. He had to steal an old government water truck. It was located at the back of an old government building that was used during the daytime. John began preparing resources to help him in his adventures. Lily gave him a special knife before he departed. On the evening before John went, they planned the route he would take and a way to get past the guards undetected. Later that night, towards the morning he headed off after saying goodbye to Lily and set off to the government building. “Goodbye my love I will see you later” and then set off on the way he encountered three guards. “Who could that be?” John asked Lilly. “No idea darling.” John got up and headed to the door. There was a government employee standing out in the cold night air on the stone steps. “Good evening.” John said. “Good evening to you too, although under the circumstances though I don’t think I can call it good.” Said the man. “We have caught wind that you stole an official government vehicle.” “And what makes you accuse me of such treachery.” Said John “I told you that we caught wind by an anonymous source that you committed the crime.” “And who was this anonymous source?!” “I’m afraid I’m not in a position to tell you that, but I’m afraid you will have to come with me to the local police station for questioning.” Said the man. “Ok fine. Honey wait here and hold the fort.” “Ok dear don’t be too long.” John then set off to the police station with the man. When they got there he was sat down for questioning. “Well what do you have to say for yourself?” “Only that I didn’t do it.” “Well do you have any proof that you didn’t do it?” “You can search my property if you like.” “Ok you can bet we will.” Later on John’s property was searched and they found nothing. “Ok we apologise for any inconvenience, we caused you no further bother.
