S-Club: Becoming A Professional Nurse

Objective One During my clinical day three, I demonstrated entry-level competence in professional nursing practice in caring for patients with multiple and/or complex unmet human needs. I addressed safety needs, safety in medication administration, effective communication, and surveillance for my patients. First, I addressed safety needs my ensuring the appropriate safety measures were implemented for the patients. Some of the safety measures included, wearing non-skid socks, wearing a yellow armband which indicated fall risk, keeping the bed in lowest position, two side rails up, bed locked, and the call light within reach.
I am an active member in a wide variety of activities. I am very involved in 4-H and FFA. Through these clubs, I have participated in many community service projects. I work hard in the classroom and I’m very goal driven. I have a 3.14 GPA, and I strive to do better each and every day.
October 2016 I obtain my bachelors degree in business administration. While I was in school, I wanted to continue to work with the youth in the community. Students in high school and college endure the same questioning almost everyday: “What are you going to be?” For many students, their career choice flip-flops multiple times and will most likely change at least once before graduating college. For those wishing to go into the healthcare field, but not desiring to become a doctor, there is another path median of the more extreme courses of nurse and physician. The glorious light shining in the middle is a nurse practitioner. Because of its ambiguous nature, many people are not aware of the differences between a nurse and a nurse practitioner.
Alexandra Robbins was writing a book about the secrets of the nursing subculture in hospitals around the United States. One surprising thing that kept coming up was the practice of hazing. Hazing is when a person is put through tests or challenges normally to humiliate her. The practice has even turned deadly in some cases. Some examples of hazing in the hospital are colleagues keeping vital information to themselves, playing favorites, name-calling, spreading rumors, and even discrediting other nurses until they quit.
I was the vice-president and the nursing club student council representative while in Montgomery College. I formulated and implemented some policies pertaining to the club. I developed a mentorship program for freshmen. Moreover, I set up a program of feeding the poor in the nearby shelter. I am currently the group leader of the education shared governance committee.
I led twenty-two students during their first year of college to provide them success as students. I co-taught a class that focused on study skills, UNK resources, and involvement on campus. My ability to communicate and adapt to the diversity of the class was shown through creating different learning activities to employ in the classroom. I exemplified team work by collaborating with another instructor. Through my experience as a Peer Academic Leader, I was able to hold two counseling sessions with each student per semester to provide myself as a resource.
Previously, I traveled down to Delaware Technical Community College to attend a leadership conference involving The Special Olympics of Delaware. I have recently applied to attend this year's New Castle County Vo Tech's Unity Day with other high schools in the district, and another Fall Leadership Conference in Dover, Delaware. Currently, I am the Captain for St. George’s Junior Varsity Volleyball team. This leadership opportunity helps me take charge of my team and guide them to success in the sport. My knowledge from previously playing, and my responsibility on the court helped push me to this position.
It would enjoy me to be President of National Honor Society and to represent our Society and school throughout the community. I have known many of you throughout my high school years and have discussed projects that can make our school a more enjoyable and friendly place for students. I want to lead our group of 52 upperlevel students through group projects in our area such as Season of Hope for Families. I have been doing research and prepairing how we could go about fundraising and helping out or community. In this fundraiser, we could help by aquiring Board games and Arts and Craft Kits.
From a young age, I learned to be very independent, and this independence has led me to gain leadership skills that have proven valuable in school. As Vice-President of National Honor Society, I have helped take charge of more than a hundred members and helped direct and organize community service events. Mrs. Fehrman, I've always taken joy in being a leader. Having the ability to help guide someone in the right direction intrigues me. That's why I would love to have a leadership position in National Junior Honors Society. I'm specifically interested in being the president, but if I don't get it, I would love to fill another position. I promise that if given the opportunity, I will be a responsible, honest, creative, committed, positive, and productive leader.
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect and giving of yourself to the care of people and community. It is having compassion for people and their health and being a humanitarian, making sure they receive the best care possible. Nurses must also treat families of patients with kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also. Nursing is a responsibility to provide the best care regardless of the patient’s age, race, religion, sex, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or their past.
