Student for a Democratic Society In the early 1960s a group called the Student for a Democratic Society (SDS) was established it is an organization that later made a strong New Left movement. New Left is a name for the generation of Americans mainly include college and university students. The New Left movement is a movement that stands for the civil rights, gay rights, abortion, drugs and to go against the Vietnam War and military draft policies that started as nonviolent but then turned out to be aggressive and militant as the war developed and many more. SDS is one of the most effective and long lasting student activist organization it has an impact on our society today.

The purpose of Free Rider movement was to boycott the segregation on buses, the interstate and interstate transportation, failed compliance with ruling Morgan v. Virginia, on going boycott and sit-in demonstrations in the south and more. In 1961 the activists would take interstate buses into the segregated southern United States and it went on for years to protest the United State Supreme Court that to segregated buses is not right and unconstitutional. There were 436 individuals participated in about 60 separate Freedom Rides. The results were desegregation order from Interstate Commerce Commission and it was then recognized as a serious organization.

Freedom Summer Project Started in the summer of 1964 in Mississippi, organized by the Council of Federated Organizations. It is a campaign raised to help African Americans to have the voice in voting and are registered to vote. This project helped built Freedom schools, houses, and community centers throughout Mississippi to help all African-Americans in need.
