Antonia is a curious person by nature, always wanting to learn. She wants to learn the ways of the West, while learning English. The names of the native plants, and the color of the sky are things that she comes to know. Though, at first, it was tough for her because she could only gesture towards thing, she is able to learn them. And, she seems to relish in the fact that she now knows them, and that she can pronounce them correctly. Cather seems to admire this in Antonia because curiosity can lead one to learn new things.
