How much do you love that special someone? Is it enough that you would make a sacrifice for them just to give them something special? No matter what the situation you can be in, a sacrifice is and only option just to make your friend or loved one happy. In “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry the main theme is the occasionally, love involves sacrifices. Sacrifices were made in the story “The Gift of the Magi”. The two main characters Della and Jim made the sacrifices for each other. Della sacrificed her beautiful long hair. She cut her her hair very short so she could sell it for money to buy Jim the perfect gift. Jim sacrificed his grandfather’s very antique pocket watch. Unexpected sacrifices were made by both Jim and Della. Which meant much more of the thought that they were willing to give up a treasure of their own. Certain people say “It’s the thought that counts.” This is what Della and Jim appreciated about their gifts. THe thought really did count and that is what made their gift even better. Although there was no use for the gift since their gift required their prize possession. From them both knowing that they sacrificed something of their own it meant more to the characters of “The Gift of the Magi”. This sacrifice can relate to other sacrifices.
