AACN Baccalaureate Essentials The AACN Baccalaureate has nine essentials, essential number two “Basic organizational and systems leadership for quality care and patient safety” applies to baby boomer nurses retiring and leaving a big gap in the workforce. With baby boomers leaving the workforce, there will be a demand for nurses and the supply of nurses available will be short, young, and inexperienced. This will affect the quality of care and safety of the patient, which is why this issue needs more attention. Working towards preventing this issue needs to start now as nurses can’t wait till it happens.
a. This portfolio shows the educational journey through the BSN program at Western Governors University(WGU). The curriculum at WGU was very challenging, nonetheless it prepared me to become a safe and effective nurse. The BSN curriculum provided avenues to keep me up to date with safe practices and learn how to master therapeutic communication. WGU also helped me sharpen my critical thinking skills in order to make decisions quickly and provide safe and effective care to patients. As the result of my training, I am ready to embark in the field of nursing and do my best to make a difference in my patients lives.

After a streak of bad luck she finally hired at Bexar County Medical Center Hospital. During her first year at in the pediatric intensive care unite she made eight nursing errors while dispensing medicine. Jones would develop really close relationships with her patients and their families.
These internships helped me get an inside perspective of how nurses go above and beyond their everyday duties to ensure patient care, setting a standard for me to go above and beyond in terms of my education, my service to others, and in life. With the changes in college tuition having increased and state support for college students having taken a decrease over the last couple of years, this scholarship would benefit me tremendously in my goals to continue my education.

My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
All this education has provided me with the abilities, knowledge, strengths, work ethics to be a proud and efficient professional working in the competitive nursing field. The BSN program has provided me with new knowledge and new skills, that have helped me to evolve into a more competent and professional nurse with stronger nursing knowledge, ethics, and moral values. Each course that I took during the BSN program was a new opportunity to strengthen my knowledge, ability to do research, and critical thinking skills expanding my knowledge and making me feel confident of my abilities to work as an important part of an interdisciplinary team. Joining a professional association for nurses is one of my short-term goals. In this association, I aim to identify mentors to spearhead my learning patterns. Similarly, I frequently attend specialty conferences besides getting involved in different exchange programs that improve my communication skills. On the other hand, one of my priorities in forming my long-term goal is to advance in educational career.
