Title: Same Love
Singer/Songwriter: Macklemore featuring Ryan Lewis
Text: Song

When the song, Same Love, was released in 2012 by rappers and singers Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, there was a lot of controversy within social media about whether the song spoke of good or bad morals. The song’s intention is to educate those in society who still don’t understand how to gain equality for homosexuals and how to accept everybody’s sexual preferences. I appreciated how the lyrics included different ideas that value the intention. The song questioned about whether we should reassess society’s look on religion, and also expressed on how everyone deserves to have equal rights and be accepted, and how society …show more content…

The lyrics, “’God loves all his children’ is somehow forgotten” shows how although many religions are centred around support, acceptance, and love, it is also giving the world a cover for their fears/judgements. I think that as humans, we enjoy being in control in most situations. However, over time, society has contorted the original purpose of religion and now thinks it is their right to decide who and how someone can love another person. Today’s generation frequently uses the slang term ‘gay’ as a casual insult to someone or something, treating it as though it is bad to be homosexual. The song communicates this in the quote, “’Man that’s gay’ gets dropped on the daily” showing listeners that the term is constantly being used, causing a harmful effect on those who are ‘gay’. I think society needs to change the way they …show more content…

However, there are still a lot of countries that are choosing to not accept this sexuality. For example, in the 2013 poll about the support for same-sex marriage, 85% of the nation voted against it, showing how the majority of their country support laws discriminating against people with sexualities other than heterosexual. Due to these quite recent polls, I don’t think that Russia’s society would be accepting of the song ‘Same Love’, which is unfortunate as although many societies in the world are trying to become more accepting e.g. the United States of America legalising same-sex marriage in June this
