The telegraph, developed in 1844 by Sameul F.B. Morse, was an invention that gained popularity in the 1830s and 1840s. The telegraph was a machine that could connect people from all across the nation. The invention could send messages in the form of electrical signals along a wire. These signals were based on a code of dots, dashes, and spaces, which later became widely known as Morse code. Upon discovering Morse’s invention, Congress gave Morse funds to run a wire from the Supreme Court chamber in Washington, D.C. On May 24th 1844 Morse sent his telegraph from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, Maryland. The telegraph was an instant hit, Businesses could use the telegraph to find out information on both the demand and supply of a product. Not
