I was born in Community Medical Center in my hometown of Toms River, New Jersey. Around the time when I was two years old, my parents wanted me to experience growing up in the Philippines, they sent me there to live with some family from my father’s side for two years. There’s not much that I remember from there besides what I see in photos, but I definitely believe that it has influenced the way in which I have been growing as a person. When I was still young, both my grandparents from my mother’s side of the family passed away from cancer. This past year, my grandmother from my father’s side also just passed away from cancer. Since reciprocal determinism is the relationship between the individual and the environment, I can say that there are several factors that influence me. The first factor is my body image since I am the skinniest male in my class and I’ve always had trouble trying to gain more weight. Since we physically work on each other during kinesiology and sometimes take our shirts off, I want to be more confident in my own skin. The second factor is to just lower my risks of getting future health complications since I have family history of high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes. Ever since freshman year, she has always made sure to eat healthy lunches and dinners. She likes to go to the gym three to five days a week or try the free exercise classes that Stockton offers. Her stress levels are maintained by staying on top of her work and duties, as well as exercising which reduces her stress. Shannon very much likes to give back to the community by volunteering a lot which she says is beneficial for her spiritual health. She is currently the vice president of Stockton Circle K, which is a service and leadership organization. She is also the co-chair of the Stockton Relay for Life committee. Relay for Life is an organization that is very near to her heart since she’s had a few family members who battled cancer. Recently, Shannon decided to go vegetarian 3 months ago. Within these three months, she has reported an increase in energy and less body fat. I asked her what inspired her to go vegetarian, and she said it was due to a Netflix documentary called “What the Health.”
Based on this discussion, Shannon also did not show any specific health conditions or risks. I chose to use a more general medical history form and health risk assessment. She is a healthy young adult and doesn’t show any specific risks. Although she does have symptoms checked off on her medical history form, they happen to be side effects of the hormonal birth control she has started
