In The Scorch Trials by James Dashner, Thomas a teenager learns that WICKED is untrustworthy. To begin with, Thomas and the gladers defend the Safe Haven from WICKED. There forth, Thomas and the gang escape from WICKED’s test facility. There, they meet scorch survivors Jorge and Brenda at the crank asylum. From there Thomas and Brenda get split from the group, in which they meet up at the Safe Haven.
On December 23, 1981, Thomas Sophonow, a Canadian man, was wrongfully accused of murder. 16 year old Barbara Stoppel was ruthlessly killed at the washroom of her workplace. Unfortunately, eyewitnesses mistakenly chose Mr. Sophonow as being the murderer. Eye witnesses stated that a man, whose appearance was very similar to that of Thomas Sophonow, locked the door and made his way to the back of the shop where he was presumed to have strangled Barbara Stoppel to death. Furthermore, while Thomas Sophonow was in custody, he showed an undercover officer a door locking technique.
Case Brief Case title: Santobello V. New York, 404 U.S 257 (1971) Facts: Santobello was indicted with two felonies and plead guilty to a lesser offense after negotiating with the prosecutor. The offense that he did plead guilty had a maximum sentence to only a year in jail, which was less than the original two felonies, and the prosecutor at the time said he wouldn’t recommend anything to the judge. However, a different prosecutor took over the case and did end up recommending the maximum sentence. The defendant’s, Santobello’s, attorney objected and told the judge of the deal that the former prosecutor made a deal to not recommend sentencing, but the judge said that no one influenced him and that the he believed the maximum one year sentence was appropriate based on Santobello’s criminal record.
He was found guilty because of a murder case of his friend Perry. The evidence that convicted James was three hair samples that found in James 's van, the RCMP said they were Harder 's. But before James’s arrest, he committed a crime along with his friend Perry. They were running a “chop shop,” they cut apart stolen vehicles and sold the parts. Jerry Douglas Mempa pleaded guilty to joyriding, and had been placed on probation for two years and the imposition of his sentence was deferred. Four months later, the county prosecutor moved to withdraw Mempa’s probation based on his participation in a burglary (Oyez,2017). Mempa petitioned the Washington Supreme Court for a writ of habeas corpus and claimed that he was denied his right to counsel during the proceedings revoking his probation. People all around America are on the edge of their seats in anticipation for the next top Netflix series, Making a Murderer. The excitement all started on December 18, 2015 when the first episode of a famous Wisconsin case was released. This case was the 2005 trial of Steven Avery, a known Wisconsin man who was wrongfully convicted at the age of 22. In 1985, Avery was arrested, tried, and convicted of first-degree sexual assault against Penny Bernstein and was later sentenced to 35 years in prison. During the time he spent locked up, he stood firm on the idea that he never committed the crime and was an innocent man.
While it may be a bit extreme to associate Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti with the image of two pure, well-intentioned individuals inequitably cheated by the legal system (they supported Luigi Galleani, an anarchist leader who committed several acts of terrorism and published newspapers that contained bomb-making manuals) the proclamation stated by the governor of Massachusetts in 1977 wasn’t incorrect in stating that the Sacco Vanzetti trial had been influenced by several unjust factors. In fact, Webster Thayer, who judged the infamous case, was quoted as saying to a group of friends early in the trial, “Did you see what I did to those anarchist [explicative deleted] the other day?” Based on this quote alone, it appears as though judge Thayer was driven by some ulterior motives in his decision making -perhaps the desire to punish anarchists for whatever reasons to which he owed the misfortune of despising them- a quality that in no way should ever characterize a judge. Not only was Webster Thayer incredibly biased, but evidence sufficient enough to prove the two men guilty was never supplied.
Briefly describe what the Scottsboro Trials were: (use specific names/details) The Scottsboro boys were a group of young African-American men that were subject to racism and unfair representation in trial. As the young men were travelling on the train to and from various job sites, a group of Caucasian teenagers were reported to have a conversation with a sheriff, where they claimed that they had been attacked by the Scottsboro boys on March 25, 1931. It was documented that a fight did indeed break out between the African-American group of young men and then young Caucasian men.
San Piedro Island is a small island north of Puget Sound. The island is full of strawberry farmlands, ocean view cottages, and cedar woods. Amity Harbor, the only town on the island, is made up of a small community consisting of farmers, fisherman, and occasionally tourists. Because the town is so small, everyone knows everyone. Neighborhood children roam the streets together, ladies sit on front porches and gossip together, townspeople stop each other on the street to say hello and make small talk.
The dust bowl was a period in the 1930’s of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the American and Canadian prairies. The Dust Bowl was in southeastern Colorado, southwest Kansas, and the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. Eventually, the entire country was affected. In 1931 a severe drought hit the Midwestern and Southern Plains.
On April 22, 1992, three guilty criminals walked away innocent after committing heinous acts of aggression and assault. They were not punished after brutally beating an African American citizen after a meer traffic stop. This brutal act of racial profiling was forgiven in the name of systemic bias and societal attitudes towards racism and similar issues. The date in question is the day that the verdict of the Rodney King trial was released by the jury. The trial involved Rodney G. King a taxi driver who was pulled over for a traffic violation.
"The State of California versus Scott Lee Peterson (Case number 1056770, 2005)", was an interesting case. This case was interesting because Laci was a very beautiful and seemingly young, friendly, and happily pregnant woman with lots of friends. Her husband, although attractive, had a kind of macho tough guy womanizer type of persona about himself. It is hard to believe or fathom someone being so cruel as to kill their pregnant wife, regardless of their marital problems. Laci came up missing on December 24, of 2002, the day before Christmas.

The cold wind also “violent[ly] assault[s]” the residents of the city, allowing the reader to envision the truly excruciating and harrowing journey people in the urban setting must make regularly. Additionally, asyndeton is utilized masterfully throughout the passage to demonstrate the disarray caused by the wind. The wind finds “theater throwaways, announcements of dances and lodge meetings, the heavy waxed paper that loaves of bread had been wrapped in, the thinner waxed paper that enclosed sandwiches, old envelopes, newspapers.” This extensive list without the use of conjunctions speeds up the reading allowing a fast pace similar to the rapid attacks of the wind, enabling the reader to visualize the onslaught on the citizens.
