Karnataka soaps & Detergents Limited (KS&DL), a successor to the government soap factory which is one of the premier factories among the Indian soap industries. KS&DL has a rich history in the business since it was established in 1916. In November 1918, the Mysore Sandal Soap was put in to the market after sincere effort & experiments were undertaken to evolve a soap perfume blend using sandalwood oil as the main base to manufacture toilet soap. In 1980, The Government Soap Factory named KARNATAKA SOAPS AND DETERGENTS LTD as it was converted into a State owned Public Sector Undertaking. Today the company produces varieties of products in the toilet soaps, detergents, agarbathies and cosmetics. The company is the true inheritor of India's Golden Sandalwood Legacy. KS&DL is one of the largest extractors of Mysore Sandalwood Oil and manufacturers of Mysore Sandal Soap in the world. KS&DL has long tradition of upholding the highest quality standard, right from the selection of raw materials to processing and packing of the end product. ISO-9002 COMPANY KS&DL has got ISO 9002 certificates since its excellence of over eight decades is dedicated to consumer delight, through total quality management and unceasing improvement by the involvement of all employees. Management took decision to obtain ISO-9002 by end of March 1999 to improve the quality management system and to facilitate TQM in process of soaps and detergents. But the action plan was already drawn and a committee was set up in 1988 with a mission statement. The company provided initial training including document quality, manual employee’s awareness program and quality system Procurement. To apply the standards, company took the guidance from consultancies, Bangalore and Bureau of Indian standards, Bangalore. Company standards registered for ISO 9002 to the Bureau of Indian standards obtained the certificate by the end of March 1999.
