Which could also mean, the dark days are representing to old country and the light must
The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum serves as a dynamic memorial to social reformer Jane Addams, the first American woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and her colleagues whose work changed the lives of their immigrant neighbors as well as national and international public policy. The Museum preserves and develops the original Hull-House site for the interpretation and continuation of the historic settlement house vision, linking research, education, and social
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND— Early this year, Baltimore Antiques Show became Baltimore Art, Antique & Jewelry Show. When the name change was announced, several people raised their eyebrows. They could not understand why it was necessary to change the name of this fair that has become a major Baltimore attraction. In his response to critics, Scott Diament, President and CEO of the Palm Beach Show Group explained that the group had to change the name of the fair to reflect all participants.
Judith Harris proposes that Jane Kenyon’s poem “Let Evening Come" is a motion of light which is a “balance of upward, downward, rising and falling” (Harris, J. 2004) movement. Harris interprets this poem using sunlight as an indirect influence and an antecede need for beauty which is influenced by Kenyon’s faith. Darkness is a form of uncertainty and is unpredictable. When darkness comes it metamorphosis our spirits and souls into something “yet to be named.”
My Media report was on, “Untitled,” by Robert Seldon Duncanson. The medium used was oil on canvas and the date was circa 1852. The painting was approximately 42 x 32 inches. The painting is of a centered waterfall, deep between the trees, and under a mountain. It is quite eye catching and very beautiful.
The drawing was drawn by Mary Cassatt in 1913. It is pastel on paper and is 43 ¼ by 33 ¼ in. This drawing is the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester. The pastel is a chalk medium with colored pigment and a non-greasy binder. This is a drawing of a mother and her two children.
Self Portrait by Judith Leyster (1630) and Third-Class Carriage (1864) by Honore Daumier are the two paintings I will compare. Since both artists capture everyday life events, I will compare the similarities, while exhibiting their different styles related to different time periods. Judith Leyster was known for pictures of everyday life and portraits in her Baroque/Dutch Golden Age style artwork. As reported by Mind Edge, “The Baroque movement of the 17th and early 18th century was known for its religious focus and its elaborate and extensive ornamentation, advanced by the Catholic Church during the Counter-Reformation as an artistic response to the rise of Protestantism.” (ch. 2.04 par.1) “Painters sought realism in portraits, with an
This symbolizes the enormity of the labor these pioneers endured everyday. In this case Cather is showing how the the pioneers lives were strong and simple as symbolized by the nature of sunset. For this example she used descriptions of the sky, the sun and the fields to create a symbol representing the hard work of the pioneers.
The medium used to create On the Avenue is oil paint and the composition of this painting well put together. Kenneth Miller’s use of elements such as color, light, and proportion has made this painting all the more wonderfully put together. There is a use of warm colors in his painting but most of the brightest colors are focused on the central figure in the painting. The color of the dress, coat and hat. There is also brightness in the color used to paint the buildings and some of the clothes of the figures.
It could be argued that the sun symbolizes patience. Everyone waits in seven years of rain just for a single hour of sun. The repetition of the sun and the rain comes up a lot. It makes the point that it is a big part of their lives. Metaphors, emotions and repetition are used to show that the sun represents hope.
This painting can be seen as set in nighttime. She includes five teddy bears in the middle of the painting camouflaged in the background; Rae uses drips on purple tree branches. This is a nice effect because it looks like rain. The purple and white drips look like cobwebs because she uses light colours. The yellow blobs in the painting are like something being almost hidden.
The image has a dark side to it which is foreshadowed by the rustic feel created by the farmhouse and shed. Like many, the history of this painting actually goes back to the illustrator. Christina Olson was a good friend and neighbor of Wyeth. He soon discovered that Christina lived with a unbearable disorder that took away her ability to walk and use any limbs. Years down the road she died at age 74 after a long hard life and complications from her disease These details may help the viewer to
(Ophelia (Painting)). Another piece that pops up, is titled Flaming June. Flaming June was painted by Frederic Leighton in 1895 and is currently being held at Museo de Arte de Ponce.(Flaming
This is a painting of the shores of the Thames river which the artist view from a nearby Brewery. In this painting an intense contrast of colours is seen. The sky is painted pale redish orange indicating the scene is during sunset. The buildings in the background are fresh green in colour which is complimentary to red. In the foreground is the Bridge, a few buildings and the shore by the river.
This was one she painted after the Henry Ford Hospital painting; it was painted in 1943. For example, this painting contains curvilinear lines that extend from her, she placed herself in the middle of the painting as the focal point, and it was also inspired by a tragedy (The Art Story). This painting is oil on a canvas and is now in the Collection of Jacques & Natasha Gellman (The Art Story). She painted this art piece in Mexico City, Mexico after one of the many times she caught Diego cheating on her (The Art Story). Not only is the form different from Henry Ford Hospital, the content is different as well.
