The artwork I decided to research is a painting by Glenn Ligon entitled " Boys with Basketball, Harriet Tubman, Salimu B #3". Ligon painted this colorful painting in 2001. The mediums he utilized within this piece are oil crayon silkscreen on paper. The dimensions of this artwork are 23 inches tall and about 16 inches wide. The elements that Ligon shows within this piece are line, color and shape.
It is a painting by William Henry Powell. It was about the Committee of Congress at Valley Forge. The painting shows how sick and poor
Paul Revere, by John Singleton Copley, is an oil on canvas of Paul Revere sitting for a portrait painting during the Colonial period. Paul Revere is sitting in a dark room at a craftsman’s table. He is wearing a dark probably leather vest with a ruffled white shirt underneath. Upon closer inspection, he is holding a teapot which appears to be one that he made. The teapot is silver with a black handle with what look like the reflection of a window on the face of the silver teapot.
Reflections, shadows, and earthly objects can be portrayed in this painting as well. Although they are both telling stories about
The sun beams from the sky are lighting up a small area of the painting and the rest is dark and gloomy. The gloominess of the painting represents dark and depressing times while the brightness of the sky creeps through thick dark clouds. This represents heaven because heaven is so large and bright and amazing that even though life is hard and seems like the world is ending, there is always something greater out there. Personally, I love this painting. I really like how Dore paints that trees and valley dark because it really highlights the beams from the sun.
To the right of the painting is a ramp that leads those coming off the ferry, into the center of Paris or to the Pont des Art Bridge. At the start of the ramp there appears a poor woman with her children. Towards the back of the mid-ground are the buildings within the center of Paris; to the right is shiny domed building which is the institute of French fine art, and to the left is are the new theaters of the Place du Châtelet. In the background is this huge clear bright sky that take up half the picture plan and is layered with heavy coats of blue’s and thick white rough textured clouds that are layered throughout the sky. This panoramic landscape painting would be considered 4th on the hierarchal
By studying Andrew Wyeth’s work I have learned how to create colour balance and unity in my landscapes. I have also learned how effective the use of bright colour can be to portray emotion. William Kentridge has influenced my rough, cross hatch drawing style whilst Salvador Dali has influenced my approach to animalistic symbolism and unconventional composition. John Piper has inspired me to look at fine detail and taught me how to create texture with watercolour.
Both of these paintings have a dark background. In West’s painting, Death of General Wolfe, the sky in the background is filling with dark clouds and smoke. The battlefield appears like it has a shadow over it, while the foreground figures are bright and have light shining on them. Similarly, in the painting, Lamentation, the author, Giotto, paints the sky in the background darker than the rest of the painting. The blue that he uses is a darker color than the rest of the painting.
Walking through the museum of art, I instantly became mesmerized by such beautiful grandeur. There were a lot of paintings that caught my eye, one of them being Achilles Dipped into the River Styx, a painting done by Peter Paul Rubens with the help of his assistants. What stood out to me the most about this painting was the unique composition and the subject within it. This painting was actually a model for the first scene in the tapestry series Life of Achilles, the last tapestry series Rubens created. There are many aspects to this painting that really do amaze me, from the unique composition, to the subject it holds, and the cultural background in which it was created.
He used the lighting to bring out the landscapes, and with the beautiful wide river he used a mountain on the left and trees on the right. He highlighted the center of the painting with the bright sunset, and he gave the sun a yellow golden color to give the appearance that the sun is going
That night we had no idea what hit us, a flash shot off from the right; my close friend colonel Robertson fell down beside me dead. I quickly dragged him to the medic in a vain attempt to save his life; there was no hope for a dead man to come alive. Now there were only thirteen of us left, thirteen out of twenty-four. We all thought we were going to die. I saw an orange glow off in the distance wondering what it could be.
It has a dark undertone. The essential colors are black and gray. There are some specks of light blue and yellow surrounding the center. The visual look of the painting is distinctive because it does not display a landscape or focus on a particular thing- rather, it is just based on solid colors with non symmetrical, wavy
My artworks for the project ‘Ordinary Extraordinary’ are all related to the Native American Spirit Animals, what my spirit animal is and how it relates to me. All six of my final drawings, except for one was in the medium pencil and two of my drawings, involved colour. The two artists I found and decided to do my research essay on, were Kirby Sattler, who paints portraits of Native American people in their traditional regalia and Julie Rhodes, who is an amazing wildlife artist, focusing specifically in the medium pencil. My first artist, Kirby Sattler, focuses mainly on portraits and profiles of Native American people in their traditional clothing, including feathers that represent something in their culture.
2.5.1.1 Realism Theory Realism focuses on state security and power above all else. Early realists such as E.H. Carr and Hans Morgenthau argued that states are self-interested, power-seeking rational actors, who seek to maximize their security and chances of survival.[10] Cooperation between states is a way to maximize each individual state 's security (as opposed to more idealistic reasons). Similarly, any act of war must be based on self-interest, rather than on idealism.
The portrait represents the beauty of the time period. It holds simplistic colors with detailed shading. The artwork is very intriguing to me. I love the detail in the background, there are tiny brushstrokes that makes up the mountains and sky. Also, I find the shading of the mouth and eyes very interesting.
