Guy Montag promotes satire through his action in burning books to keep the public from asking questions and to ensure everyone’s happiness. To ensure happiness the government has firefighters burn books so the public doesn’t have any other ideas other than portrayed by the government and what is shown on TV. By government rule fireman have been told to burn every book the public has including the house they are found in “it was a pleasure to burn” (Liukkonen). Montag enjoyed burning books as his job until his perspective changed. This example shows how brain washed the public has become because of the ban on books.

The protagonist John, is an inquisitive writer who intends to write a book called on the father of the Atomic Bomb, Felix Hoenikker. In the process, he finds himself engulfed in the meretricious lives of the scientist's three children and a group of people on San Lorenzo. On a trip to San Lorenzo, the narrator discovers the fragile state the people in the island are left in.

We opened the book on chapter nine and decided to write our own new plot as if Billy Pilgrim was the one reading it. We wrote the text and inserted it as part of the chapter in order to adhere it to the rest of society’s criticism seen in the book in the very best Vonnegut style. In order to interpret Vonnegut’s intentions and purpose of social criticism throughout Slaughterhouse Five, specially in chapter nine, it´s necessary to understand science fiction and its elements.
