Jerad Hess, the director of the film Napoleon Dynamite, used many satirical device such as Exaggeration, Parody, irony, to interpret the life of a teenager in Idaho . The representation of teenage society in Napoleon Dynamite express the ups and downs of teenage life and mock/ exaggerate the life of teenegers and other contemperoty problems and situations. The director's main objective is to exaggerate and to reveal the covel changes of the country through a point of view of a teenager and the impact of those changes in their life. The immigration of Latin Americans to America and from urban areas to more rural areas are portrayed through the character Pedro and his interactions with protagonist-Napoleon Dynamite and other characters.
Satire in the Tortilla Curtain Satire is a literary technique exploited by writers to show the foolishness of humans, organizations, or governments by using humor, irony, or exaggeration. In the novel Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle, satire is used numerous times and effectively. T.C. Boyle uses satire to bring light to the foolishness and irony of the characters in the novel. This literary technique allows a book on a serious topic become more relatable and appealing to young adults in society.

People will always be greedy and think they are smarter than others but this is untrue. The one who thinks he is smarter or better than the other will always end up losing in life.
Voltaire’s Candide takes us through the life and development of Candide, the protagonist. Throughout his adventures, he witnesses many travesties and sufferings. Like many Enlightenment philosophers, Pangloss, Candide’s tutor, is an optimist; this philosophy was adopted by many to help mask the horrors of the eightieth century. This is the turning point where Orgon is no longer fooled by Tartuffe. He states, “but now the proof's been carried far enough; I'm satisfied, and ask no more, for my part.” At this point, Tartuffe’s mask has been unveiled. The dramatic irony used by Moliere in the play allowed the audience to know what was going on all along. The use of this element is what makes Act 4 scene 5 my favorite part of the play.

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, more commonly recognised by his pen name, Lewis Carroll, is one author who questioned these expectations through the use of satire within his text Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The type of satire that I chose to create for my Create Your Own Satire is Horatian. My satire is Horatian because I am using humor to poke fun of technology and how it is taking over family bonding time in a lighthearted, witty way. Unlike Juvenalian satire, my satire is lighter, more gentle, less harsh in tone; more sophisticated and subtle. When I was deciding what to create for this assignment, my goal was to create something that would make the audience laugh by entertaining them with wry humor. Although my goal was seek change, I wanted to show the audience the issue by highlighting one of today's weaknesses- family bonding caused by technology.
Medieval romance novels revolve around knights who follow a code of chivalry and courtly love as well as embark on a perilous quests. Medieval romances typically do not include farce or satire. Farce is a type of comedy which includes exaggerated humor and mockery. Satire is the use of irony and ridicule to criticize or point out various aspects of society. Monty Python and the Holy Grail mocks the characteristics of a medieval romance such as the quest, knightly chivalry and courtly love through the use of satire and irony.
According to dictionary.com, satire refers to “the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.” (Dictionary.com) During the enlightenment period when Voltaire wrote Candide, communicating one’s displeasure with social and political issues was not acceptable and those who did were often looked down upon. By using satire, Voltaire is able to exaggerate his feelings while at the same time mocking social norms and those in power. Voltaire uses satire in Candide to communicate his opinions on several topics, which include, suicide, religion, sex, and the philosophy of optimism to name a few.
