In “Wealthy Teen Nearly Experiences Consequence”, we see a teen who chose to underage drink and drive resulting in plowing into a minivan filled by a family of four. Then after being arrested, put up a fight with the officers on the scene. After this series of events, you would know your life would be filled with heavy consequence- but that is not the case for everyone. In this article, satire by social commentary is used to give the piece a sense of relativity along with an easy understanding for the readers. The author, using social commentary such as sarcasm, irony, with the use of hyperbolics brings attention to an societal issue allowing targeting of an intended audience. The intended audience in this piece was middle to lower class because they would be the ones enraged by such a lifestyle. The societal issue is privilege given even in unworthy circumstances. By hitting the targeted audience, they could create change due to the emotions of reading such a story.
