Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a social class as “a division of society based on social and economic status”. This definition is evident by the way America defines its society through income level, possessions, and more, whether it be directly through the treatment from others or indirectly from the business world. Throughout the years, the imbalance between the poor and wealthy has become more dramatic due in part to the roller coaster economy with the idea of America’s class system becoming exceptionally controversial. In the United States, poverty continues to rise while the wealth is savored by the ones who already have it. President Donald J. America often overlooks this definition as if there were no social class due to the foundational layouts of the nation again in the instance of “all men were created equal” from the Declaration of Independence. Some believe that social class is just a “label [for] the way we can understand each other” (Stadtlander). However, the word label directly connects to what class systems are. Unequal distribution of wealth which contributes heavily to poverty could also be “the root of many of our [current] social issues” (“Social Class”).
