With Dan unaware of his actions, and constantly facing mild dissociative disorder, a police officer was assigned to follow his every step. The last section of the novel, Asylum by Madeleine Roux, included many obstacles the protagonist had to face. Dan Crawford, began the novel by spending his summer in the New Hampshire Prep program, as he began to uncover secrets hiding in the dorms he uncovered secrets about his past. Since Dan is a foster child and his biological parents decide to hide, much of his history has been covered.

When Lopez meets Nathaniel he is awed by his musical talent and soon discovers he once attended Julliard, a prestigious school of performing arts. Lopez’s story was transformed into a film produced in 2008. Lopez’s character in the book and film share similarities and differences in his personal life, attitude towards Nathaniel, and struggles that contribute to the overall theme of the novel.

Steve Lopez is an LA Times reporter who saw Nathaniel playing in the streets. Nathaniel on the other hand, is a homeless and schizophrenic musician.

The fictional character of chose is Willy Wonka, from the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Tim Burton (Depp, et. al, 2005). This case study begins with Wonka’s background information pertaining to his feelings, thoughts and behavior. Then the evaluation which highlights symptoms and examples of evidence relating to Wonka’s diagnoses of Schizotypal Personality Disorder.
Between the years of 1962-1972, David Rosenhan and seven other sane people were admitted to 12 different psychiatric hospitals suffering from schizophrenia. Rosenhan wanted to know if the workers are able to distinguish if an individual was sane or insane. The pseudopatients were asked to call the hospital for an appointment and after arriving, they explained how they felt symptoms of hearing voices that had said “empty” or “hollow” and explained a little about their real history.
In 1898, a German psychiatrist, Emil Kraepelin, described the confusion with the side effects and named this disorder in the Latin expression, dementia praecox. Later in 1908, Bleuler, a Swiss psychiatrist and eugenicist, initially named the expression "Schizophrenia" Schizophrenia comes from the mix of the Greek words for split (skhizein) and brain (phren). Schizophrenia is a disorder which is severe and chronic and disables the brain. It is most commonly described as a psychosis which is a type of illness that causes mental disturbances that affect thoughts, emotions, and actions. In America, schizophrenia affects one percent of the population from any gender, race, and cultural group.
The main objectives of treatment when an individual with schizophrenia is experiencing an acute psychotic episode are prevention of harm, controlling troubled behavior, and decreasing the severity of psychosis (American Psychiatric Association, 2010). In addition, the occupational therapist should be aware of the related symptoms displayed such as agitation, aggression, negative symptoms, and affective symptoms (American Psychiatric Association, 2010). Discovering the specific factor that led to the incidence of the acute psychotic episode in order to increase the likelihood of the client returning to the best level of functioning is also considered (American Psychiatric Association, 2010). Persons with schizophrenia are at an increased risk for suicide. It is imperative to monitor the client for the potential of suicidal tendencies, suicidal intent, suicidal ideation, history of suicide attempts, and command hallucinations (American

The Soloist film follows a journalist, Steve, who is on the hunt for a good story for his column in the LA Times. He hears a homeless musician, Nathaniel, playing one day while on lunch who mentioned that he attended The Juilliard School.

Schizoaffective disorder: Daniel Daniel is a 17-year-old Spanish decent male who was rushed to the hospital with Auditory hallucinations, Euphoria and Paranoid contemplations and thoughts. Daniel has no history of alcohol or substance misuse, or any medical history but his mother expressed he has become socially withdrawn which began around the age of 13, this happened after the passing of his dad who was 40 years more established than his mom. During that time he became very withdrawn toward family and friends as well as not getting enough sleep, and his concentration is affected, has episodes of manic mood or an unexpected increase in energy and behavioral displays that are out of his character. His mother stated this behavior has been going on for about two weeks and getting worse by the day. Now a senior in high school he has lost interest in school and his grades are declining he also is losing interest in the new job he just received at Mcdonalds as a part time cook.
In the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, a group of men living in a psychiatric ward are dealing with different types of disorders. The character that I chose to observe and analyze was Billy Bibbit. Billy is a young man who struggles to speak without stuttering and make his own decisions. He seeks approval from those around him and is always worried he will disappoint those around him. Although some people at this psychiatric ward are committed, Billy is a voluntary patient.
In The Soloist (2009), the beginnings of Ayers’s symptoms were shown immediately, so his prodromal stage was never portrayed: the active phase was shown first. As a child, Ayers experienced loose association and hallucinations. His loose association first appeared at his cello lesson. Nathaniel went on and on about Beethoven and his love for music, hopping from one subject to the next, merging the separate statements together (The Soloist, 2009). Still a child, Ayers’s first hallucination was seeing a burning car roll passed his window (The Soloist, 2009).
