School Dress Code; Why It Should Be More Lenient Dress codes in schools is an important issue, especially girls. From the fact that shorts are the only things girls can wear that will keep them from getting hot on warm days, to them just being comfier, there are many benefits and little to no disadvantages to letting students wear them. The main thing I’ll be arguing for is athletic shorts. Authorities say shorts serve as a distraction to others and should not be allowed in a learning environment, and that could be true if there was no dress code, but not with things like athletic shorts. Boys have the option of wearing athletic shorts, due to the fact that they’re longer. But they’re made to fit them and the ones for us are made to fit girls. That doesn't mean we should ban them from just girls because they’re a “distraction”. They’re typically longer than just regular shorts and much looser, that’s just as much of a distraction as a

Especially on warm days, they’re one of the only things you can wear without being hot. They’re easy in every way possible and would save me and many other girls so much time in the morning. Personally, a simple change like clothing options could have an affect on things like tardiness, and help me be earlier to school. If a girl wore athletic shorts to school today, they would be pulled out of class and either be forced to change or go home. That is much more distracting than it would ever be for anyone seeing her wear them, and not only that but it disrupts their education. If someone doesn't feel like wearing leggings or jeans that day, I think they should have the option of wearing shorts. There are so many reasons athletic shorts should be allowed, and basically no reasons that they shouldn't. Many schools allow it for that reason
