As humans, it is alarming for sudden and unthought changes to happen. In the book Secret Agent 6th Grader by Marcus Emerson, Brody Valentine, the protagonist, learns that sometimes in life, things turn upside down in a matter of seconds, anything is possible and you just need to find a way to solve it. In the beginning of the book, Brody struggles to keep going on when difficult changes happen. By the middle, Brody starts to find out that with people around him he could be influenced to do the right things. As the story was coming to an end, Brody had figured out that he should put away all the negative thoughts and keep going no matter what. The cookie had a secret code in it but Brody had no idea what to do with it because nothing like that had ever happened to him before. At that time Linus dropped it to Brody because he knew that he would be able to hide it well in case someone came looking for it.All that while LInus had been in a secret agent group. This goes against my claim because Brody was not thinking of anything like that happening to him because he just wanted someone to help him up after being shoved down. Most of all, he did not want the responsibility of having to solve unthinkable mysteries that go on at his school. Also, at the start of the story, pages 80-85 shows that Brody was “kidnapped” and interrogated by Colton and Sebastian because they thought he had something they wanted. He has faced trouble again. On page 5 of Part 3, the text states,”Valentine! My horse shoe yelled the soda jerk.” Brody is at the school dance. A missing “horse shoe" is his responsibility now.This supports my theme because he claims to have given it to one of the people that are looking for it and again, he always seems to be the center of all the problems in the school.As the story is coming to an end, Brody Valentine starts to get cold feet. On page 9 of part 3, Brody wants to give up because he has been through a lot in that school year. This goes against my theme because Brody’s main mission is to never give up, follow signs and lead to great choices.In the last parts of the book, Brody Valentine learns that having people around you always helps with problems and overcoming fears. On page 20, the text includes,”Funny how a little bit of kindness can go a long way, even with new people.” Brody learns that he can always count on someone even when things are going downhill. Maddie has helped him throughout his journey of becoming part of the secret agent group. They might keep disagreeing but keep coming back together.
