One theme of the book is that you must let go of the past to see and enjoy the future. I think that this is a theme in the book because Colin Singleton, the main character, was always thinking about K19, thinking about the Theorem, and writing the Theorem, that he couldn’t realize and see that he was having the probably the best summer of his life, that he had amazing friends, and that he might like a girl that wasn’t named Katherine. (No spoilers)
While reading this book I, was sometimes laughing, because of Colin’s friends Hassan and Lindsey. There were sometimes though, that I felt like yelling into the book so that Colin could hear me and I could tell him to see that everything was fine around him and that he should get a little more involved. Colin could be so oblivious sometimes that I got frustrated sometimes.

Every one of those relationships has ended. After starting his summer and being dumped by K19, Colin was feeling very depressed. Colin’s friend Hassan and Colin decide to take a road trip to help him get his mind off of K19. They end up in Shotput, Tennessee where they meet Lindsey, who they would befriend and later stay at her pink mansion. Throughout their time in Gunshot, Colin is determined to create a Theorem that will be able to predict relationships and who would get dumped. Colin is just trying to find his “Eureka” moment, which he thinks will be when he finds the solution to the Theorem.
