While the North tried to stop the South from withdrawing their spot in the Union, the North also denied the Southern states rights. Sectional groups assembled in the North regarding the “unnatural feeling and hostility” to slavery in the South. “ By consolidating their strength, they have placed the strength... no avail in protecting Southern rights (Document I). The Northerners believed that slavery is not right, and also that “the demand of African slavery throughout the confederacy” is unheard of.
Sectionalism was a leading contributor to America’s inability to reach compromise. The North and South possessed passionate political views that differed immensely. Both the Northern and Southern states felt unheard and unconsidered. The reannexation of Texas proved to be pivotal in how close America came to going to fill out war then. Northerners were willing to take Texas as she was, sought not to change the character of her institutions and realized that slavery existed in Texas.
Sectionalism is the restriction on individuals to favor their immediate surroundings and possess a strong personal agenda. This theme goes hand with those of cooperation and the negotiation process in 1787. Before there was an official United States, the land developed in colonies. This separation remained within the governing of each separated area. A set of differing opinions was bound to emerge.
Between 1800 and 1850, the North and South had grown distinctively different but they also had some similarities. Some of the differences & similarities between the North and South included the economy, social attitudes & structures, and daily life. The North and the South had differences & similarities with their economies. The North and the South had farmers and everyone including children worked on the family farms. As time went by, the North became more industrialized and manufacturing became the center point of their economy not agriculture.
P.6 Compromises seemed to be working in 1820 as a solution to political issues that America agreed to disagreed on. As seen in the Missouri Compromise, where Henry Clay made slaves free in twelve states and not free in the other twelve; in order to keep everything balanced. But between the period of 1820 to 1860, compromising took a shift and no longer seemed to be the solution. Compromises worked with Henry Clay in the Missouri compromise in 1820 but by 1860 due to a series of geographic, political, and social changes compromises were impossible.
Sectionalism The definition of the word sectionalism is the restriction of interest to a narrow sphere. There were 3 main sections that practiced sectionalism in the 1800s. These sections were the North, the South, and the West. A few events that created sectional conflict were tariffs, slavery, representation, and states rights.
In the North slavery wasn't practiced. The economy of the North was mainly dependent on industry. The North depended on the South for
As the foundations of a successful government system, political parties help keep balance of power and uphold the Democratic ideals of the United States. These parties have origins that can trace back to the early sectional tensions in America. These sectional tensions were the primary reasons for the development and progression of political parties in the United States. As early as 1800, signs of deviation would appear.
In the Era of Good Feelings, sectionalism was a very important thing; it improved the feeling of nationalism, helped the economy, and strengthened relationships between the states. But good things always have a consequence, and the result of sectionalism forced the people to rely on each other for their
The 1800s was a trying time for our developing union; from the war on slavery to the birth of the Underground Railroad, it was a period of growth. In addition, several states were admitted to the union- California, Maine, and Missouri to name a few. With all this growth will inevitably come struggles; sectionalism to be exact. Sectionalism occurs when a group/region is so focused on their own agenda, they neglect national issues in the process. Southerners were so fixed on maintaining slavery, while Northerners fought so harshly to abolish it.
During the early 1760’s the North and South both had similar cultural ideas like religion, language, owning slaves, and having farms. But then the North realized slavery was wrong. According to document 3 it states “ The South thus quickly established a rural way of life supported by an agricultural economy based on slave labor ... The North's economy came to depend more on trade than on agriculture”(Doc.3). The North and South cultural differences was the reason why the Union divided.
Constitutionally the North preferred a loose understanding of the United States Constitution, and they sought to grant the federal government amplified powers. The South desired to reserve all vague powers to the separate states themselves. The South trusted upon slave labor on behalf of their economic wellbeing, and the economy for the North was not
The jobs mainly are lower end because the rich paid the poor to go instead to war when the rich men were drafted. For the north Most of the jobs were industrial since they had an industrial economy. Most of the southern jobs were in farming since there was an agricultural economy (Whitehead2016).Some of the jobs in the north included accountants, teachers, and surveyors (Historynet2016). Of course those were only some of the jobs there were many other factory jobs. For the South there were many jobs like carpenters, mechanics, and blacksmiths.

Approximately three Southern states change their approach on forced labor without compensation, African American slaves would work for an amount of cash that was, generally, given to the masters of the slaves; However, some of these African American were freed and, therefore, kept all the earnings. In the mid 1800’s southern states, slavery was progressively headed towards salary base employment which would boost the states economically. Furthermore, Northern states were already using such economic structure to boost labor in the industrial region, which led to divide the country into sectors of specialized commodities. Southern state were no longer the only major contributor of economic growth, the Northern states were in large in foreign demands for cotton in the years of 1815-1843 as industries boomed in
