Technology is starting to become a bigger part of societies lives as the years go on. Part of that technology that is evolving is something called the “Internet of Things.” The simple definition of the Internet of Things is the devices that are connected to everyday objects and making them work together. Examples would be connecting your Smartphone to a speaker or connecting your phone to your house to control lights, blinds, locks and such. There are many creative ways the Internet of Things is used by business’, which will be talked about later. The Internet of Things is starting be used in just about every industry out there for many different things. For people on the outside of those industries, this should be great news. As great as the Internet of Things sounds, there is a downside. The biggest downside is the security risk that is involved with using the Internet of Things. With everything being accessible over some sort of server, there is a risk that an outside person could hack into that server and either steal information or in some form mess with the device connected. John Deere has made it possible to measure he level of moisture in the soil. This benefits farmers because it helps them make a timelier decision on when to irrigate. Instead of the farmers having to guess, they will now know when the best tome to irrigate is. This allows farmers to lower their running costs and potentially produce better crops. With how important agriculture is in this area, this kind of technology could make a major impact on the local community.
