The company also provides the main communication services connecting inmates with the outside world through phone, emails and voicemails. Securus Technologies just recently announced that their newest innovation, a video inmate call app for smartphones, has hit over 65,000 downloads in just six months. Securus’ Video Visit mobile app was introduced and available on Android first, six months ago. The new app for the Iphone was released a week ago and has already been downloaded by 5000 of the 65,000 that the company announced on February 16, 2016. Securus Technologies saw the need of family members and friends of inmates to have a closer, more convenient way to keep in contact with loved ones who are incarcerated. For many, travel is too costly, too far, or just generally out of the question.
