Although she was born in Cuba, she immigrated to the US at the age of 12 and her family settled in Miami, Florida.

Selena definitely inherited her father’s musical talent, but she also learned his ways about keeping her head up when discrimination was averted towards her, too. Abraham was not only a role model for Selena as a musician, but also when the time came to become brave against the negativity coming from the patriarchs of the Tejano music industry. Selena ranks among the most influential Latin artists of all time and is credited for catapulting a music genre into the mainstream market.
