It is frequent for one to experience thoughts of insecurity and doubting of oneself due to either the situation they are put in or the experiences one has faced throughout their livelihoods; however, there are a select group of people within the world who are confident within themselves along with having a strong sense of self belief. Although characters such as Louie Zamperini, Julius Caesar, Atticus Finch, and Elie Wiesel are seen to have a strong sense of self belief, characters such as Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel appear to be less knowledgeable about their strong self belief verses Louie Zamperini and Julius Caesar whom appear to be very aware of their strong sense of self belief. Whilst speaking with Antony about Cassius, Caesar states, ‘ Would he were flatter! but I fear him not: yet if my name were liable to fear, I do not know the man I should avoid so soon as that spare Cassius… Than what I fear; for always I am Caesar. (Shakespeare 1.2.198-212).’ Caesar stating such rash ideals shows not only his impudence but also the strong sense of self-belief. When it comes to Atticus Finch, a lawyer within the town of Maycomb, he is known for his very wise and intelligent like attitude not only towards the townspeople but also his children, Scout and Jem. Atticus shows strong signs of self-belief when discussing with his son Jem, he states, ‘They’re certainty entitled to think that, and they’re entitled to full respect for their opinions… but before I can live with other folks I’ve got to live with myself. (Lee 139-140).’ This statement, by Mr. Finch, shows not only Mr. Finch’s wise attitude but also his self-belief as he shows respect to other peoples beliefs but decides to go down the path in which follow his beliefs rather than the mass’s.
