The Civil War has had a significant impact in history for the nation today. It reconstructed our ideas about our freedom and equality. The Civil war was a very devastating time during the mid 1800’s. “We shall overcome,” sang the black children of Birmingham, Alabama. On May 2 1963 the Children's March of Birmingham, Alabama started. Over 3000 kids were involved and most ended up in jail. To this day the march has changed how the world looks at black children's rights. The children's march has lead up to what now is called the civil rights act which has also changed our world today.
June of 1963, two African American students were admitted on the University of Alabama. George Wallace, the Alabama governor, and several state troopers would not let the two brave students into the university (Younge). Wallace was a segregationist and believed African Americans shouldn’t be able to attend the same school as white people. Soon after, District Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach told Wallace to let the students in, but he refused and began to give a speech to the people surrounding the entryway. Throughout the day, President John F. Kennedy heard word of the situation at the university and made a crucial decision: to send the Alabama National Guard to the University of Alabama and order Governor Wallace to leave.

" Wow really grandma? "Thats right deary ... sad but also unfortunilly true
On August 28, 1963, hundreds of thousands of people marched to support freedom. They marched up and down Constitution and Independence avenues in Washington D.C. before the long awaited speech. They wanted to listen to the dream that Martin Luther King Jr. had, and they wanted to be the people to make that dream real. The March on Washington was an important part of the Civil Rights Movement, including the “I Have a Dream” speech. The effects of this event can still be seen today, and have changed how our nation has developed.
The famous speech “I have a dream” from Dr. Luther King Jr. is clearly a persuasive speech. Based on this idea, we can easily recognize some communication patters associated to any speech that aims to influence another person’s attitude, beliefs, values and/or behaviors. Pathos is primordial in a persuasive speech as a method of convincing people with arguments drawn out through an emotional response. First, Dr. King speech needs to demonstrate that there is a problem that affects them and tries to show up that something needs to be done. He uses magisterially some illustration while explaining why they cannot be satisfied: “bodies heavy with the fatigue of travel cannot gain lodging…”
As kids people get taught what is wrong and right from a parental figure or experiences of life teach us how to react to different situations. When we finally turn adults no one is there to remind us of what’s good and what's bad so we have to use our past experiences and our knowledge to help guide us. Each adult shapes their societies for their generation and many more generations to come. Mohandas k. Gandhi and Susan B Anthony’s speech along with the article Selma to Montgomery March on history show that civil disobedience is a moral responsibility.
In 1963, Martin Luther King delivered one of the most influential and impactful speeches in history. King's I Have a Dream speech was consistently powerful assertions of emotional appeals, repetition and paradox. In King’s speech, he utilizes pathos to build a relationship between his black and white audience. This is evident through his references to both black and white children and the history of slavery which appealed to the audience members of the older generation.
Man must be able to choose his values and act toward them, even those that would him. Over all, man must be free to pursue his own goals and happiness. When the Government comes in and starts tweaking and changing the people’s individual laws, its unconstitutional power will eventually get our country into bad issues between each other. The Government needs to stay out of the people’s individual rights because it will not only cause problems and is unconstitutional, but it also forfeits the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Those three laws or guidelines are what got this country to where it is today and the Government today should have no right to intrude and change what this country was founded on.
Language is the most powerful tool of communication in this world, with language we are able to create change. For instance Martin Luther King Jr is a man who created peace against racial oppression with he delivered his speech because of it he received a Nobel Prize. In his “I have a dream” speech, his words were inspirational when he spoke about equality. He said, “ Now is the time to make real promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice.”
Martin Luther King Jr. uses both logical and emotional appeals in order for all his listeners’ to be able to relate and contemplate his speeches. He does an exceptional job using both these appeals throughout his speeches by backing up his emotional appeals with logical ones. Using emotional appeals captures an audience's attention and makes them think about what the narrator is saying. Emotional appeal uses intense words and charged language to grab listeners to get them to keep listening. On the other hand, logical appeals helps to grasp the concept better and provides facts that prove it to be true.
