Abstract
This essay will discuss the background, social issues, biblical view, and positive effects about the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act. Before the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act there were hardly any benefits rewarding veterans for their service. Also, at the end of World War II there would be millions of homeless veterans unless something helped to stop the tragedy. There were a few social issues occurring before the creation of the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act. Such as, homeless veterans, veterans not getting help for their PTSD, and veterans had to struggle to reconnect with society. From a Christian standpoint, …show more content…

For example, “When World War I (1914-18) ended, millions of veterans returning from fighting overseas were faced with unemployment and homelessness, plunging the United States into an economic recession” (Riggs, 2015, para. 2). As seen in history books all over the U.S, right after World War 1 ended, the Great Depression began. This Depression was mostly due to the scarcity of jobs and the millions of veterans who needed jobs after the war ended. World War II veterans knew that service members before them struggled, and World War II veterans had no clue if they would be able to provide for themselves or their families. For example, “After World War I (1914-1918), soldiers had been demobilized quickly and with no advanced planning. Veterans had returned home to compete for jobs in a slowing economy, which resulted in a high cost of living, unemployment, labor strikes, and even race riots” (Arnesen, 2011, para. 3). Clearly, incoming World War II servicemen had something to worry and be afraid about. The U.S government also was scared about what would happen to veterans, and they started devising a plan.
