Thebes In Greece their lie a city in the region of Boeotia. Thebes also known as Kadmeia, was in the center of Greece and was important in the middle to late Bronze Age, they participated in both the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars. It was situated in a low plateau overseeing the surrounding plains of Boeotia. This essay will discuss Thebes’s economy, society, government and their unique cultural traits. Thebes was not a seaport like more cities it was a farming city. Most money the city had come from local Thebans through trading and exchanging. The city was famous in Greek legends and literature. It was the known birthplace of Hercules and played a big role in the stories of Oedipus and Dionysus. Pindar, the most famous Greek poet of the time lived here. (). Thebes cuisine was traditionally the same among most city-states. Wheat, olive, fish and wine was common, meat was rarely eaten. Greece was the oldest wine making regions in the world. Education wise, children started school as early as 2 years old. The Seven against Thebes was a story in mythology, it’s about seven champions who were killed fighting against Thebes after the fall of King Oedipus. There army was culture trait in itself. The Sacred Band was culturally put together with a male and his female partner by each other’s side to help them fight better, no other Greek city-state practiced this. Thebes was a booming city back in the day. It was geographically situated in just the right area. It had abundant soil to grow crops that many cities did not have. They won against Sparta who was considered undefeatable. Thebes was also surrounded by Mythology, being the home of many of its legends like Hercules. Economy wise they had the best of the best army and they also rose in becoming a federal state, Thebes was a very blossoming society before it all came crashing down due to
