The Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) is the “foundation on which planning in a time-constrained environment is based” (FM 5-0, 2012). Using the Military Decision Making Process allows you to develop better courses of actions, because it permits you to plan before executing. If a proper course of action is not developed, it can result in a task failing. The Military Decision Making Process is divided into seven steps; the seven steps are receipt of mission, mission analysis, course of action development, course of action analysis, course of action comparison, course of approval, and orders production.
