To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is an amazing book with an abundant of surprises. Set back in the 1930’s in Maycomb, Alabama, when the Great Depression was happening and racism from the civil war still rages on in this southern city. All the quotes and themes in the novel can still be associated to life today. As the book was narrating in the past by Jean Louise Finch (Scout), there is one man that guides her and her brother, Jem Finch. It is their father, Atticus Finch.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Scout receives her call to her quest after Atticus takes on the rape case against Tom Robinson. As Atticus’ daughter, Scout becomes involved in the initiative effects of Atticus taking on the case which begins an individual call for Scout. “I’m simply defending a Negro-his name’s Tom Robinson. He lives in that little settlement beyond the town dump.” This quote stated by Atticus provides for specific insight to the instance when it is first formally introduced that Atticus took up the case.
Atticus Finch shows many ways of wisdom throughout the novel. He tells Scout to respect Boo Radley and to understand the fact that their might be reason why Boo always stays at home. Atticus states in the novel, “You never truly understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-until you climb into his skin and walk around it” (Lee, 39). This evidence supports why Atticus is a wise individual who always tries to see things from other people’s point of view.
“Heroes are made in the hour of defeat.” This quote, by the late Mahatma Gandhi, who was an Indian activist, perfectly encapsulates the meaning of a hero. A hero is someone who stands up for what he or she believes in, and confronts the evils that the person may face, no matter how big or small those evils may be. This is exhibited in both Harper Lee's Atticus from To Kill a Mockingbird, and Markus Zusac's Hans Hubberman and Liesel Meminger from The Book Thief. Just like the quote eludes to, these characters stay resilient even when there seems to be no hope.
Sometimes a man or a woman has to put aside their own needs and desires to help a person in great need, even if it isn’t want others say is right or is to their morals wrong. In To Kill a Mockingbird a middle aged lawyer named Atticus was forced to make this decision for a young black man named Tom Robinson who was framed of a crime he didn’t commit. Raping a young white woman. It made perfect sense why the lawyer went out of his way to help the innocent man.
“ Some walks you have to take alone.” is in Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. This was first read in 2010 when the book was published. This quote was stated because Katniss has to do some things on her own to defeat the capital. In other words the quote means that sometimes when you do things with other people it doesn't work out as well. It is appealing because it can relate to most people.
This quote is a very important piece of the novel because it foreshadows what will commence in the last 4 concluding paragraph of this extensive novel. This quote also conveys a dominant message that picks up on the major motifs of the novel. This quote is meant to make the readers think about the conclusion of the novel while pushing them to fully understand the major events that occur in the novel such as the Tom Robinson trial in which Atticus defends Tom. In what Scout is saying there is proof of a journey that Scout has just concluded previously before they commence their next substantial journey together.
In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, Power can be refer to as the ability to influence or change one’s opinion base on how an individual is being viewed by the human specie. The book, To Kill a Mockingbird, is simply about a girl, Scout, whose life is influenced both positively and negatively as a result of how society was created. In this book there is a side character, Mayella,; and because of her class and gender, she is powerless, but her race makes her powerful. With this in mind, powerless is a result of poverty, the reader can understand how Mayella’s class makes her powerless; she cannot not fit in due to her lack of money and her lack of hygiene and that makes everyone want to avoid her thus, makes her powerless. “Maycomb’s Ewells lived behind the town dump the town dump in what was once a Negro cabin….(Document
Harper Lee is a friendly and outgoing person. Harper Lee began writing To Kill A Mockingbird in 1960. This story took place in 1936 when harper lee was younger living out her childhood in Monroeville, Alabama. This book explains to us the roots and consequences of racism that occurred in the book and how good and evil can happen to a town or an individual. In her novel, To Kill A Mockingbird Harper Lee uses Tom Robinson, Atticus, and Jem to show that good and evil can happen in a person and a town.
Sirius Black was the character that changed the most throughout the book. This change occurred more because of the information that we learned about him. For instance, at the beginning of the book, all we knew about him came from what everyone else had been saying. The muggle news, for instance, was labeling him a murder. The wizarding world also gave a warning that he was a mass murder who had escaped from a highly-guarded prison.
The Chapter quote that I chose is from Chapter 7 “Harry Gets A Girlfriend”. The quote is “Domestic races of the same species…often have a somewhat monstrous character... They often differ in an extreme degree in some one part…”. I picked this quote because it is a good quote and a good chapter to go with it.
Evil: I think that Bob Ewell's should be in this column. On pages 227-234 is where Atticus is asking Bob questions about what happened the night of Mayella’s “rape”. During this whole court case Bob was joking in the beginning about Mayella and it was clear that he doesn’t care much for Mayella. He also uses very inappropriate language in the courtroom. On page 230 Bob says “I got to the fence I heard Mayella screaming like a stuck hog inside the house.”
ower? I define power as the ability to do something, have the ability to influence others to do something. In a brief summary To Kill a Mockingbird author Lee Harper uses memorable characters to explore civil rights and racism in the segregated southern united states of the 1930’s. The story is told from through the eyes of Scout Finch, you learn about her father Atticus FInch who is an attorney who hopelessly strives to prove the innocence of a black man unjustly accused of rape; and about Boo Radley a mysterious neighbor who saves Scout and her brother Jem from being killed, because of her class and gender Mayella is powerless but, her race makes her powerful.
In the novel, Snape is depicted as a melodramatic villain who is loyal to Voldemort, evident by him stating, “It so happens that I know of the plan, […] I am one of the few the Dark Lord told” (Rowling 37). Readers assume Snape is
Section 1: Lastly, the issue of schools being too focused on getting money for the establishment than focusing on how to better education for the children. Our state spends more time and money focusing on giving students more standardized tests, rather than focusing on a more thorough and more well-rounded curriculum. A submission from a parent’s written in The Texas Tribune, quotes that: “Each year, children graduate from Texas High Schools and they must take REMEDIAL English and Math before moving on to College Level courses! If they were truly being taught in school, these classes would be unnecessary"(Texas Tribune). Children are not sure to be college ready in the most important subjects, by the time they graduate from high school.
