Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll

Rock and roll has always had a rebellious image throughout time. The ethics and acceptable behavior have changed drastically over the time period. For example in 1956, the Ed Sullivan show would not show Elvis Presley below the waist due to Elvis’ shaking hips. In 1967 Mick Jagger could not sing the lyrics “Let’s spend the night together” and instead had to change the lyrics to “let’s spend some time together” on the Ed Sullivan show. There have been many rebellious rock and roll bands in the history of rock and roll including but definitely not limited to: Elvis Presley, KISS, and The Sex Pistols. In India, a man named Bill called his local radio station to play KISS. The station only played the most popular music of that time. Rock was not a type of music that radio station played. Bill Terneth told the station if they did not play KISS music, he would surround the station with the KISS army. The very next day, thousands of people showed up demanding the music of KISS. This showed how one band can change the minds of young people. Many people saw this as a warning sign. A benefit of KISS was merchants making one million in the 70’s based off on all of the merchandise KISS sold. KISS had pens, comic books, and even coffins. One of the biggest craziest concepts of their merchandise was that they added their blood to the ink for one of their comic books. In response to them adding their blood to the ink, churches started to criticize KISS greatly.
KISS has been the source of a lot of controversy. Gene Simmons, is known for his sexuality. On top of being “The Demon”, Gene Simmons is known for his sexuality, having sex with several women. He is also known for sticking his very long tongue out and wiggling it around. At his concerts, he has a stage antic where he drips blood all over his mouth. Some of their songs are also very controversial as well including “Let’s Put the S in Sex” and “Lick it
