Sex role theory Sex or gender role differentiation is a characteristic feature of a patriarchal society. Men and women act out gender according to defined and ordered role expectations (Coontz and Henderson, 1987; Parsons & Bales, 1955; Rosaldo, 1974). Norms of sex roles dictate that men specialize in production and creation of cultural values and artifacts in the ‘public sphere’ whereas women are assigned roles of procreation, care, and maintenance in the ‘domestic sphere’ (Coontz and Henderson, 1987; Parsons & Bales, 1955; Rosaldo, 1974). Qualitative methodology helps to understand life experiences and to reflect on the understandings and shared meaning of peoples’ everyday social life and realities (Limb, 2001). In this study qualitative approach has been used to collect the primary source of data through interviews with the women victims who attended at the Kuwaiti hospitals within a period of my field work, Officials from the ministry of health, officials from the Police office, Officials from the Hospital, Personal observation and a focus group discussion with Government officials in Kuwait. The aim of collecting information from key informants was to seek the views of government officials in various organizations about what the government has done about the violence against women in Kuwait City. This necessitated the need to interview them using the in-depth method with the help of an interview guide. Triangulation enables a researcher to gather evidence from multiple sources to address the questions at hand from different points of view. In this study triangulation method is considered to be convenient, in analyzing the risk factors contributing to the cause of violence against women. There are various issues that need to be considered while conducting a qualitative study. Variables of interest are not obvious, such as in a complex situation or phenomena where the researcher is not in a position to determine which variables may be important. A detailed, holistic view of a topic, individuals is investigated in their natural setting and finally the researcher is drawn to writing the research in a literary style rather than in a numerical way.
