College is an exciting time for any young woman. It is supposed to be a crossroads point in a students life, where they really branch out and find themselves. However, for many, their college experience becomes a nightmare. According to The Hunting Ground, one in five women will be sexually assaulted while in college (The Hunting Ground). However, if you take a look at the statistics of the number of male students who were punished for sexual assaults on these college campuses, the numbers are alarmingly small. Women of all races are being assaulted on college campuses every day and very little is being done to stop it. While there were several instances of sexual assault, only four were reported. In fact, several women who attempted to file reports were “unable to file reports with law enforcement officials despite their efforts.” (Harris). According to Harris, we are unable to see Black women as victims. While all of theses statistics may be true, sexual assault does not discriminate. This is a crime that affects women of every color. Unfortunately, black women are not the only women who our society refuses to see as a victim in their sexual assault. In fact, according to Camous Sexual Assault study, only 16.2% of the reported victims were African American, and 66.9% of the reported victims were white (Krebs) .
