Biography
Mainly known as Harriet Tubman, Araminta Ross was known by many names for leading the African American slaves to freedom. She is the daughter of Harriet Greene and Benjamin Ross who were both held in bondage. As a result of both her parents being slaves, Harriet Tubman was conceived as an African American slave, who could not read or write, along with her eleven siblings. Due to Harriet Tubman being born a slave, there is no exact day recorded of her birth. Harriet Tubman was believed to be born in 1821 or 1822 on the Maryland eastern shore (Hine). Harriet Tubman lived a hard life due to being taken from her mother at a very young age, being forced by her master to take care of infants and being frequently mistreated and abused, and being whipped during her labor. …show more content…

The incident left her with seizures, which affected her the rest of her life. She is reminded of the incident that had occurred by an ugly scar that she would sometimes cover with a turban from her crushed skull that left her unconscious for days. Harriet Tubman married a free African American man name John Tubman in 1844. Fearing being sold away after the death of her owner put pressure on her relationship with her husband. Harriet Tubman left her husband when he refused to go north; he revealed how he did not support her escaping and threatened to tell her master if she left. In 1849, she left her husband because her dream of freedom was too big to give up and she fled slavery by traveling north to the free state of Pennsylvania
