By Macey Chindamo Ruby Bridges is one of the very many people who has changed history. Bridges has helped desegregate schools all around the world. She still stands today, sharing her thoughts and ideas to stop racism and segregation. Ruby’s life has had many ups, and downs, but she still seems to look on the bright side in almost every situation. Whites threatened and harshly criticized brave, confident, heroic American activist, Ruby Bridges for being one of the first African-American children to enter the William Frantz Elementary School, a school for white students, which helped end segregation in schools. Ruby Bridges has made many great accomplishments that have affected our everyday lives. On November 14, 1960, a remarkable change in history was made by Ruby Bridges that will not be forgotten. Ruby Bridges has affected our lives in many ways, all starting with how she prompted the integration between both black and white students in schools. In the year 1959, Ruby Bridges attended a segregated elementary school in New Orleans. The following year, New Orleans was to desegregate schools. Many whites reacted to segregation by pulling their children out of schools. During the remaining days of November 1960, New Orleans was very chaotic. White racists screamed at six-year-old Ruby Bridges and treated her with hatred and contempt. The mayor of New Orleans appeared on television asking for people to respond in a calm and accepting manner of the integration of Frantz Elementary due to the numerous amounts of protests. Ruby motivated other schools to desegregate. Later, she graduated from a desegregated high school. Years after desegregating Frantz Elementary, the school has become segregated again, but mostly with African-American students. If Ruby had never gotten the chance to enter a school for whites, our world would not be where it is
