This research paper is on one of the motivational people during the Civil Rights Movement. The person’s name is Ruby Bridges. She was one of the first people to stand up against segregation. It will be about her life and all of her accomplishments and how she affected the Civil Rights Movement. Ruby Bridges was only six years old when she helped out in the Civil Rights Movement, by being integrated into a southern white school in November 14, 1960. She was escorted to her class by her mother and U.S. Marshalls due to the violence and mobs. Her bravery was the stepping stones to continued Civil Rights action and she has shared her story with the generations to come. She grew up on a farm her parents and grandparents sharecropped in Mississippi. When she was four, her parents moved to New Orleans for a better life in a big city. Her father worked as a gas station attendant and her mother worked night jobs to help support her family. The fact that Ruby was born on the same year as the Supreme Court passing the Brown vs. Board of Education that desegregated schools was the main start to her being involved in the civil rights movement. She was one of many that was chosen to take a test to determine if she could attend at the desegregated school. The test was really difficult and the idea was that if none of the African American children passed, the school could prevent being desegregated for a few more years. She lived five blocks away from an all-white school but had to attend an all-black segregated school several miles away. Her courage showed that no matter what, never give up. She had to face racism and shunning, but she held strong and kept her mind set on a goal. She is now married to Malcolm Hall and has four
