In life, there are decisions made by the powerful few, that effect the powerless many. Oftentimes, we find ourselves oppressed by a systematic institution designed to benefit the masses, but they end up oppressing us. Throughout American history, there have been varying degrees of enslavement and indentured servitude which oppressed African-Americans and American youth. From the plantation to the factory, these systems have had magnificent effects on the economy. Through the use of personification in her speech, Florence Kelley develops the idea of fixing today's mistakes by learning from yesterday’s failures.
Throughout this speech, Florence Kelley addresses The Philadelphia Convention of the National American Woman Suffrage Association in 1905, to bring attention to the working conditions of young children across the nation. Kelley’s rhetorical strategies are, listing examples of the appalling working conditions in a repetitive manner and appealing to ethos and pathos to persuade her audience. Kelley creates a compelling argument that captures the audience and throws them into the issue and then persuading them to join her battle. Kelley forms strong personal and emotional statements that strikes the hearts of the audience. She captures the hearts of the mothers and fathers in the audience and then encourages them to empathize with victims.

Each character had a color theme assigned to them which developed the audiences’ attribute of that particular character. A minor character, Maurice wore white for a majority of his scenes which conveyed that he was innocence of the main plot. One of the antagonist Julian, wore browns and greens, which secured this character as unscrupulous and as a jealous person. The investigator Loren Visser’s suit was yellow-green, it produced a feeling of an agitated state of mind towards that character, and which amplify this character’s deeds and words. Ray and Abby’s costumes were a blue tint color.

A topic broadly discusses between the two women is the leader they had in 1992 - George H.W. Bush - and what should be expected from him and every other American leader. Elizabeth Glaser believed President Bush ignored the AIDS situation and neglected to help.
During the Progressive Era, women began reforms to address social, political, and economic issues within society. Some addressed the issues with education, healthcare, and political corruption. Others worked to raise wages and improve work conditions. Among these (women) is Carrie Chapman Catt, a leader of the women’s suffrage movement. Beginning her career as a national women’s rights activist in 1890, she was asked to address Congress about the proposed suffrage amendment shortly after two years.

Love is an involuntary factor that many people have come across in life. In the novel The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, the main character Lily, has an internal conflict with her mother which affects how open she is to love. Lily grew up with her father and the culpability of her mother's death.(more info) She was raised with a harsh understanding of love due to the lack of love given to her all throughout her life, for she was more open to love because she hasn't doted as a child. However, Lily found love through the Daughter of Mary, the Boatwright sisters, and Rosaleen, who later taught her how to love herself.

Speech for NJHS Induction Ceremony Good evening students, faculty, and family members! Thank you, Mrs. Reece and Principal King, for inviting me to this year’s National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony. Students, tonight we honor your achievements in the areas of Scholarship, Citizenship, Responsibility, Community Service, Character, and Leadership as we recognize and celebrate the choices, and at times the sacrifices, you have made. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The reward of a thing well done is to have done it."
I have overcome difficult challenges in my pursuit of education. I fell behind on my credits, which was the hardest situation to pull myself up from. I caught up and past my colleagues. I am more than ready to further expand my education beyond graduating high school. I am striving to make myself rise above the rest.
