I am reading the short story “Sheila Mant” by W.D. Wetherell. In this story the boy has to choose between the biggest bass he has ever caught and a girl named Sheila Mont. I will be predicting whether the boy will choose Sheila or the bass.
G through out the whole story the boy is trying to decide if he wants to choose the bass or Sheila. Y Bass R does not listen to Sheila R knows a lot about bass R puts work into keeping the bass on the line Y Shelia R Stalks her R ask her out R tries to impress her
G I predict that the boy will pick the bass over Sheila because he has put much more effort into keeping the bass then paying attention to Shelia.
Throughout the whole story the boy is trying to decide if he wants to choose the

In the story the boy says, “That’s neat, I mumbled. Skiing. Yeah I can see that” (Wethrell 3). This shows that he will choose the Bass because he is not actually paying attention to Sheila because he is trying to get the bass to stay on the line. Also, this shows that he will pick the bass because he does not know what Sheila is talking about so he is just ignoring her. The second reason that the boy will pick the bass is because he know way to much about it to just let it go. In the text he says, “Yeah, bass. They come into the shallows at night to chase frogs and moths and things. Big largemouths. Micropterus salmoides”(Withrell 2). This shows that the boy will pick the bass because he has invested enough time in researching bass that he has the scientific name memorized. This also supports that he wants to go after the bass because he knows what they do at what time of the day and if a different person went out fishing they might know what bass eat and where to go to find them but the boy know everything there is to possibly know about bass. The third reason that the boy will choose the bass is that he put a plethora of work into keeping the bass on the line. The textual evidence is …show more content…
The first reason that she is rude is that she does not help with the boat. The text states, “There was an extra paddle in the bow, but Sheila made no move to pick it up” (Wethrell 2). This shows that Sheila is rude because there is a paddle there for her to help but she does not want to help so she just sits there and looks at the water. The second reason that Sheila can be considered rude is that she says fishing is dumb and she does not like it. This shows that she is rude because she has no respect for the fact that she might hurt the boys’ feelings and she does not care if he likes it or not. The third reason that Sheila can be rude is that she thinks that she can be a really good model. This shows that she is rude because she is saying that she can be better than most other people that she knows and that are her friends. This also shows that she is rude because she is just talking about how she thinks her life is going to be perfect and the life that everyone dreams of having. Throughout the story Sheila can also be thought of as selfish. The first way Sheila is selfish is that she s about herself. In the text Sheila says, “I have to be careful with my complexion.”(Wethrell 4). This shows that she is selfish because she is to caught up in her own life and talking about herself to care what the boy is doing because she is so caught up in her own life. The second reason that Sheila can be considered as selfish is
