Starting high school, I thought I would finally be treated like an adult. When I first came to west, that’s what I thought was going to happen, but then West high school administration started enforcing the backpack rule. The backpack rule makes it so that students cannot carry their backpacks to class and in the halls, while school is in session. The students at West high school should be allowed to carry their backpacks. This will help students in various different ways. If students carried their backpacks, there would be less tardies and students would stay in class more often. Students would be on time to class more often because they wouldn’t have to stop at their lockers to get their materials, they would already be with them. It would cut down the time needed for passing in between classes and give more time to have for the actual class. Students would stay in class more often because they wouldn’t have to leave to go get the materials that they might have forgotten. Since the administration took away the backpacks from the students, they have been angry. The students don’t feel like they are being treated like adults. It makes it seem like the administration doesn’t trust the students enough to carry backpacks, so they treat us like we’re in elementary school. It also doesn’t make sense that every other high school let’s their student body carry their backpacks, but West is the only school that can’t carry them. Being treated unfairly is something that West is against, yet the administration is doing it to the students that go here by not allowing them to have their backpacks.
