Darry and Ponyboy have a substantially complex relationship, with many fluctuations in their feelings towards each other, or their perception of those feeling throughout the book. In the beginning of the book, it is thought by Ponyboy that Darry is hard and apathetic towards him. As Ponyboy says in the book, “My face got hot as I bit my lip. On page 96 Ponyboy writes, Suddenly I realized, horrified, that Darry was crying... Darry did care about me, maybe as much as he cared about Soda. Ponyboy also becomes less afraid of Darry when he starts fighting back when Darry yells at him.
When people make choices that could drastically change their life, the decision they make is based on the influence of others. In the novel, The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton a gang called the Greasers is stereotyped for being the "mean types" that slack off at school. Then there are the Socials who are know as the rich kids with cool cars that happen to like "jumping" Greasers. As these two gangs are rivaling, they both go through some dramatic events that change their perspectives on life. In the novel The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton the character Darrel Curtis is unquestionably influenced by his gang as it prevents him from being successful, leading him to becoming the father of the gang, and overall being someone to look up to.
He didn’t realise how much he cared for them and how hard Darry worked to live together as a family because the brothers knew they would get separated into boys' homes. Ponyboy loved Sodapop, he was his favourite brother and person, to him, Sodapop was his only family left and was affectionate. It wasn’t until Ponyboy was in the hospital waiting room when he saw Darrel crying because of him. “Darry did care about me, maybe as much as he cared about Soda, and because he cared he was trying too hard to make something of me.” Even if they had argued almost everyday, Darry was only looking out for his younger brother because no matter how much they fight, they will always be family.
He was always looking for trouble and was not interested in anybody's feelings like in this instance “ [Dally] put his feet up on the redheads chair, winked at [Ponyboy] and beat his own record for saying something dirty. ”(p 87). Nobody would want to be treated like this, and anyone with good sense would know that. A hero is somebody who is pleasant and congenial but Dally does not have either of this characteristics. Right before the death of Johnny out of fear to losing Johnny Dallas went on a rant saying “‘That’s what you get for helpin’ people,’”
It might be that Darry came to save Ponyboy, because they are family. This quote could represent how important Ponyboy is to Darry. It might be possible that Darry wants to protect Ponyboy as much as possible because of the bond they have with each other. It is also possible that Darry came because of all the memories he has with Ponyboys. All things considered this information helps prove how Darry, and Sodapop show they care for

Love - an intense feeling of deep affection. Love is an emotion shown in many romantic or family relationships as well as friendships. Love is shown frequently throughout the entirety of the book The Outsiders. For example, Dally is an extremely aggressive and audacious person, but he also shows immense love towards Johnny. Sodapop is a fun-loving, carefree high-school dropout, but he is understanding and shows love to both of his brothers by seeing both sides of an argument.
He seems to have no emotions, and as it said on page , Dally can take any amount of punishment. “ Dally had spent three years on the wild side of New York and had been arrested at the age of ten. He was tougher than the rest of us……..” (Hinton, 10) . “He had quite a reputation.
Dally is not strong mentally (when he couldn’t let Johnny go), he really does not do good deeds, and he does not care about any other people than only Johnny, and he’s rude to others and bad at using words. A quotation that supports my statement is, “What for? Get back in here before I beat your head in.” (p.90) This quotation supports my statement because Dally said this to Ponyboy when he hopped off the car and said to see what the deal is when he saw the old church on fire, it proves that Dally does not care about other stuff that does not involve him and that he’s rude to others and using
If Dally used justice he would have reported Two-bit. “Sixteen years on the streets and you can learn a lot. But all the wrong things, not the things that you want to learn”-The Outsiders. Another thing that proves my point is that they learned all this stuff on the streets and they know that Johnny killed Bob, so Dally is telling the cops they went to Texas for Johnny and Ponyboy. The first time we see this is after Johnny and Ponyboy arrive fresh from the murder to seek Dally’s help. He gives them dry clothes, a loaded gun, fifty dollars, and tells them a location to hide in. He gave them the essentials they need even though he could have gone to jail. Darry would have even beat up Dally to death for helping them escape town and giving them a gun and money. According to Ponyboy, “...he [Dally] got drunk, he rode in rodeos, lied, cheated, stole, rolled drunks, jumped small kids—he did everything.”
