When Grendel says “I will cling to what is true” he means he is hanging onto the thought of this whole situation being an accident. “His whispering follows me into the wood, though I’ve outrun him. “It was an accident,” I bellow back. “There are bones in a hotel in New York city drenched in your gasoline, an ugly winter. no matter how sweet, how seductive your summer evenings rear and spring blooms. Bones drunk with propane and angel imprints in tar, trapped in a metal cage as you walk out into existence. the night, the nightshade: a cloak of namelessness. The bones in the heartbreak hotel sing tragedies; do not ask me to sing you tragedies when your stars collapse.
We know how to find the central idea of a text. Now, how do we find the evidence that helps support the central idea? We look in the text for it. We look for the details that support the central idea and are significant to the text. This scene is relevant due to its differing plot from the other two slayings. During the killing of Grendel, Beowulf tears off his arm and ultimately destroys the wretched monster alone and without frivolous weapons. When the duel between Grendel’s mother arises, Beowulf
One of these differences happens to be in the poem; Grendel kills the Dane who wronged him and proceeds to get away from Beowulf, but as Grendel is running away Beowulf catches his arm. Although Beowulf catches his arm in the poem that is not what happens in the film. In the film, Grendel runs and Beowulf gets a rope around his wrist and as Grendel jumps out of the building he gets caught on the rope, then Grendel proceeds to cut his own arm off in order to get away from Beowulf and the other Danes. In the movie Beowulf has no part in cutting off Grendel's arm.
