Drugs are a big issue in the sports industry. Many athletes will take performance-enhancing drugs, such as steroids, to help them play better. These types of drugs should not be allowed because it gives the player a greater advantage over other players who are playing with their natural ability. This issue could be solved if there was monthly drug testing and if the drug was not so easy to get ahold of. Many major league baseball players are getting caught using performance-enhancing drugs.
The use of PEDs in professional sports is also an ethical dilemma. PEDs users clearly have a leg up on their competitors that they achieved unnaturally. They are taking a short cut to achieve greatness and that’s unethical in sports. Is it right to play against competitors while taking a substance they aren’t taking? Shouldn’t sports be as fair as possible to everyone?
My point is that engaging in drugs while participating in sports can be very dangerous. Drug testing should be mandatory for athletes for their safety. The reason for drug testing are; teams depend on their teammates to always be available, drugs can change your athletic abilities, and students join sport teams as a positive activity to avoid getting into trouble and the presence of drugs in sports defeats the goal. I personally know how it feels to be on a team with others who use drugs. They practically “slow-down” the team.
This case shows us that it is understood that drugs have a negative effect on students and their performance in school and in athletics; and so it is reasonable for school districts to make and enforce policies that have the potential of preventing students and student-athletes from abusing
Athletes use of performance enhancing drugs has become all too common in today’s society. With many athletes testing positive for doping, sports are becoming tarnished with athletes trying to gain an unfair advantage on their competitors. Although players are tested often for such drugs, there are still many loopholes and some drugs are not detected by current systems. So what would cause an athlete to put their body at risk to gain just a slight edge on their competitor? Sports should be a test of real skill, not artificial skills given by doctors.
Should Athletes Who dope forfeit their Titles and Medals? Some people think that they should not, because the athletes work hard to keep their reputation, they are expected to be good at any sports, and that puts pressure on them that they have to be better and that leads to serious matters, they want something that can come to their nerves and be good at the sports activities they play, and the only thing to do is to dope. I disagree. They need to have their medal forfeited especially if it was found out and supported evidenced that they were under drugs when they go to them. Drugs for whatever reason may take them is medically proven to enhance one’s physical attributes.
In conclusion, Performance Enhancing Drugs should not be tolerated in any sport, whether professional or amatuer. These drugs are highly dangerous and even lethal to all athletes who use them. It is also unfair to athletes who choose not to use these drugs, as they are performing on their hard work and talent and not relying on an “edge” to help them reach their goals. These drugs are highly addictive, just like any other street drug or alcohol and can be fatal in many cases.
Athletes, of all ages, should be drug tested before every game or match. If athletes were to be tested before every game, the use of performance-enhancing drugs would be reduced drastically. This would cause younger athletes to stop using performance-enhancers as often, make the games/matches more fair and equal, and it would also allow maturing athletes to be healthier. Athletes wreck their lives and give themselves a bad reputation when they use performance-enhancing drugs. If a professional athlete is caught using performance-enhancers, they do not go undisciplined.
I recommend that more drug tests are enforced or somehow students are informed more about the drugs. Mostly for their well-being and fairness in sports. And to try to make schools make a rule that if an athlete fails the test, they must take a class that educates them about steroids. If the student athletes don’t learn about the dangers of steroids and they continue to use the drug many long term consequences are more than likely to appear. They affect the brain causing random mood changes and changes in behavior which can lead to other consequences.

Therefore drug testing at sports events must be allowed in order to ensure fair play.
