The 8th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution says there can not be cruel or unusual punishments, which people refer to as having kids treated as adults for crimes, even though they aren’t. In the past, there have been crimes such as murder and homicide that children have been convicted of as children even though they have committed atrocious crimes. Some people say they aren’t as knowledgeable and know better. Juveniles should be treated as adults for serious crimes because of punishment. Children should be tried as adults because they could be surrounded by dangerous criminals and look up to them as if they’re making the right decisions. Kids who grow up in dangerous or bad neighborhoods have different types of role models or people they look up to than a child who's born into money. “Proponents of trying juveniles as adults argue that some crimes are so serious that the perpetrator, regardless of age, should be held accountable in the adult criminal justice system.” (Rogers) So if juveniles were tried as adults all of the time they would not have the chance to get away with it and be held accountable to make sure that the 8th amendment works. Another reason that children should be held accountable for their actions is because the punishment has to be strict so nobody makes the same mistake again. If they commit a crime such as murder, and they don't get the appropriate punishment, they will not take it as an appropriate crime and do it again or commit a different bad crime but still not get in
