“A full time minimum wage worker makes about $15,000 a year,” ( Cooper). This is not enough money to support a family. For example, millions of these people go into debt (10 Reasons to Raise the Wage). Since many people cannot afford to live a healthy life with that amount of money they turn to the government (Cooper). Should minimum wage be raised? Yes, the government should raise minimum wage. The history and supporting information relate to the Catholic Social Teaching theme of Dignity of work and rights of workers because the current minimum wage is not enough to raise a family, there will be less poverty, and a solution for this is to raise minimum wage to ten dollars and ten cents..

A minimum wage of $7.25 is below the federal poverty line for a worker with just one child ( Pinola ). A worker with one child needs to make $26.43 to be above the poverty line ( Pinola). If $7.25 is below the line for a worker with just one child the larger families go deep into poverty (Cooper ). Therefore, minimum wage should be raised because if it is raised there will be less poverty in America ( Cooper ) . If the wage is raised more people can provide food and shelter for them and their families ( 10 Reasons to Raise the Wage ).
