The steroid era in baseball referred to a period of time in the MLB when a number of players were using performance enhancing drugs, in which resulted in a increase in offensive numbers. Even though steroids were banned in the MLB since 1991, the league did not take league wide performance enhancing drug testing till 2003. The lack of testing in earlier years allowed many players to get away with taking steroids. During the 2001 Major League baseball season, Barry Bonds hit a MLB single season record of 73 homer runs.
They can be found being used by body builders, professional players, and many other people. They may be beneficial in some ways, but they do more harm than anything. The effects are short term and long term. PEDs give the person using them physical and physiological effects (Hinkle, Shelby). Ped’s are nothing but bad news for people that use them.
Steroids are the common enhancer to use because it brings results fast. The effects can be worse than the results. Drug abuse can be life threatening. Athletes need to think about their future, such as family, friends, and their own life. Athletes have been using drugss for many years and will keep using for many more.
The article tries explain how an athlete can get PEDs for therapeutic use, it also explains the limitations of this process. It also tries to explain that the reasons that may sway athletes to take illegal PEDs are very complex, these factors range from peer pressure to misleading information on PEDs to many other factors. People of the WADA I stand here today with a proposal, which will improve and revolutionized the sports world. I propose for performance enhancing drugs to be allowed in professional sports. Steroids and other illicit performance enhancing drugs have become the biggest scourge of professional sports leagues, and that’s why it is time they were made legal. PED’s or steroids became a problem around the early 1940’s and since then no one has been able to stop them. They started being used by the USSR for the Olympic Games and at the time the Soviet Union was dominating in every single sport, now performance enhancement drugs (PED’s) have come a long way and are a lot more complex, but one issue is still common; the moral rights concerning them.
Drugs are a big issue in the sports industry. Many athletes will take performance-enhancing drugs, such as steroids, to help them play better. These types of drugs should not be allowed because it gives the player a greater advantage over other players who are playing with their natural ability. This issue could be solved if there was monthly drug testing and if the drug was not so easy to get ahold of. Many major league baseball players are getting caught using performance-enhancing drugs.
PEDs can cause aggression and other mood changes as well as more serious disorders like depression 4. PEDs are unhealthy for the body and the mind. Steroids and other PEDs don’t increase dopamine in the brain like other drugs; dopamine produces the “high” feeling. But they can become addictive and people that use them will continue to do so despite physical problems and negative effects on social relationships 5.
The reason why is too many athletes are getting arrested and dying from using too much steroids. I think they should get banned and the athletes should perform to their natural ability. I also think that the athletes would perform better without use of steroids. So therefore the research and I think that performance enhancing drugs and steroids should be
Mr. J. Hirby of lawdictionary.org states: Many professional athletes take steroids illegally, which not only represent a potential felony convictions but may also result in permanent career damages. People take steroids because it helps them build muscle quickly and perform more effectively at top levels. However, they are considered cheating by many sports enthusiasts, and they are banned from use because no organization wants to lend its support to a practice that leads to severe health risks for the sake of improved athletic performance (Hirby). This quote stated above describes how it is in-fact cheating to use steroids in pro sports as believed by sport enthusiasts and many fans.
Taking pills and injecting testosterone are popular ways that athletes use PEDs. The whole reason that athletes choose to take these drugs is because of the unfair advantages they gain. Athletes take these drugs knowing it will increase their athletic ability and decrease their rest time. Anyone that knowingly takes a drug that will increase their ability is not playing their sport the acceptable way, and obviously this glorified cheating should not be allowed. Evan Argintar, an orthopedic surgeon at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, had this to say about performance enhancing drugs.
LOST AND FOUND I'm running, puffing, slowly feeling a sharp pain in my stomach. It’s a stitch. I hate stitches. Whenever I run around the block with Phillip I always get a stitch, he tells me it is never an excuse to lose, this time I won't lose, I’ll beat him. I'm Jedda.
In conclusion, Performance Enhancing Drugs should not be tolerated in any sport, whether professional or amatuer. These drugs are highly dangerous and even lethal to all athletes who use them. It is also unfair to athletes who choose not to use these drugs, as they are performing on their hard work and talent and not relying on an “edge” to help them reach their goals. These drugs are highly addictive, just like any other street drug or alcohol and can be fatal in many cases.
One of these is the negative effects of the drugs on the person taking the PEDs. Taking PEDs can take a major toll on your health, so that is why PEDs should not be allowed in sports. Steroids and creatine are two major supplements that are used by athletes. It has been documented that use of these causes major health risks like kidney and liver damage. PEDs have shown no long-term rewards just some short-term like strength and speed.
Picture this every athlete in sports using drugs no one depends on skill anymore everyone depends on performance enhancing drugs like adrenaline and steroids. Many athletes today use drugs to enhance their skills in all sports. This is a problem because some athletes use their own skills and are getting beaten by athletes who use drugs. Performance enhancement drugs create an unfair advantage over those athletes who choose to rely on their own skill. Banning drugs in sports can make a difference in the athlete 's health Drugs like steroids could decrease the user 's lifespan Performance enhancers, like steroids and other forms of doping have a negative effect on long term health ¨Gary Becker, PhD Professor in the Departments
The first reason why drugs should be panned is because drugs can cause death. Many people think that if they took drugs or hormones they will be stronger, faster and much more better than the other, will this is true, but it will cause sudden death and then being better or stronger won't matter. For example, there are some people who takes winning at competitions really seriously, so they do whatever it takes even if they took drugs or use any other illegal steroids to win. This is wrong, unethical and it will destroy people's health rather than improving it. Also, according to some of the famous athletes in body building, they take drugs and hormones to increase their muscle density so they can win and some of them got killed in the process of doing
