Should Students Be Allowed To Chew Gum In School

For a while now the gum rule at SMS has been, you aren’t aloud to chew gum in class. But there are a lot of kids who love gum, and want to be able to chew it in class. There are are benefits to chewing gum, and there are still many students who disobey the rules. The result makes some students happy and some kids sad. All different schools have different rule whether or not they will be allowed to chew gum in class. Many students agree with this rule, yes we shouldn’t be allowed to chew gum. But then there are a lot of students who disagree with the rule. But there are a lot of pros and cons to both sides of situation. But what should the rule really be? Since SMS students aren’t allowed to chew gum in school, there has to be a reason to why students aren’t aloud to. And what made them make the rule. First of all, some students don’t throw away there gum after they are done chewing it, they just stick the gum somewhere else, which is very disrespectful. Especially to the people that will eventually have to take the gum off. Also, chewing gum in the middle of class can be very distracting. But how can gum be distracting? To start off, some students may just want to chew gum because of the flavor. Since gum comes in all different kinds of flavors, there are lot of choices to choose from. So while they’re sitting in class, they might like to have some flavor in there mouth. Another reason why students want to be able to chew gum in class, is because, it gives them something to do.
