Teens around the U.S. are trying to lower the voting age because they feel that they have just as much right to vote as people 18 and up. Teens believe that they are old enough to make an educated vote, just like 18 year olds. I agree that some teens would actually follow politics and vote, but most teens wouldn't do the research on a candidate. Many people, not just teens, think that the voting age should be changed. Making the voting age 16 would not be beneficial because most teens don't care about politics, 18 year olds during world war to were drafted to fight so they got the right to vote, and most of the teens would be influenced by their friends. Sometimes these influences make teens just go with what their friends are saying and not actually forming an opinion about it. If teens could vote, some of them would just vote for who their friends are voting for. “A 16-year-old is as good as an 18-year-old or a 40-year-old at voting.” LA Times. 2015. Web. If teens start just voting for who their friends vote for, they could be voting for something that they don't agree with but they don't know that because they just went with what their friend said. This would be bad for the political people as well because if a teens just voting because of how, for example, someone looks then someone who is not as handsome would not be voted for even though they could have some good ideas. I could see how people ages 16 could be good for voting. Some would actually take the time to follow politics and learn about each person that they could vote for. Others could also take the opportunity to learn about politics since they would now have the ability to vote. These reasons would work except their would still be people that don't pay attention and find other reasons to vote for someone. I agree that some people would take the time to learn what their voting for, but I feel that a majority of the people wouldn't do
